We have been busy putting our caravan to bed for the winter today, but when we opened it up this morning the red lights on the hot water and blown heating systems where flashing three blips then resting before doing the same over again.

According to the handbook, this is indicating a Lock out, and although we managed to sort this a few days ago when it happened, the same quick 2.5second flick on and off has not worked on this occasion, does anyone know how we can clear this please before we have to call out the engineeer to it?

Thanks,

Julia

Couple of thoughts.
We have a micro switch on the window nearest the exhaust vent.
High winds near the in / out vents
Good luck

dry de-powering it.. it may reset it back to normal..

sometimes control systems get their knickers in a twist and a simple reset fixes the problem.. its worth a try even if it dosnt work..

Agree with trog, disconnect the battery for a minute and then try it, got a posh 2yr old tele responds to pulling the plug out from time to time when it switches itself off and won't switch on again!

PS, also make sure the battery voltage is actually high enough?

Thanks guys, the battery is fully charged and showing 13.8amps, we tried the disconected battery trick a couple of days ago, but it didnt work. Im going to call Whale for advice, as sadly a 70mile trip back to the dealers is not an option for us at the moment as our daughter is terminally ill with cancer and we never know when we may be needed at her bedside.

If Whale cannot fix it for us, then it may have to be a mobile workshop call out, it cannot be left like that throughout winter.

Sounds like you're out of gas, either an empty bottle, or an isolater valve closed somewhere.

Further to this, from the Whale info : -

Gas Lockouts
Gas lockouts must be cleared by turning the selector knob from gas on (flame) position to off position then back to
the on position. The complete sequence of switch movements must be completed within 2.5 seconds for a lockout to
be successfully cleared. If there is air in the gas line, e.g. after a gas bottle change, the space heater may require
several attempts before it lights. Lockouts can also be cleared by switching to the ‘fan only’ position and then back to
‘on’ within this 2.5 second period.
Other Lockouts
If the lockout is caused when the unit is operated on electric, the lockout can be cleared by turning the selector knob
from electric ‘on’ position to ‘off’ position then back to the ‘on’ position. The complete sequence of switch movements
must be completed within 2.5 seconds for a lockout to be successfully cleared.
Note: A cycling of the power supply to the unit will not clear a lockout. Some gas lockouts, e.g. ignition lockout and
combustion air faults will still permit use of the appliance in electric only operation.
If the problem persists contact Whale Support on +44 (0)845 217 2933

Thanks for that Colin, this morning l have rang the Whale support number, and found a vital piece of information for clearing Lock outs has been omitted from the caravans instruction manual. To clear a Lock out it is essential to turn the heating thermostat Knob onto its highest setting, before following the instructions in the manual with the switch flick sequence.

We also found out that ours had been caused by a service engineer failing to reconnect the EHU lead fully into its socket inside our battery box, so although everything looked connected from the outside, and our battery was fully charged, the caravan had no effective mains supply.

The fan will not turn off on our whale heating and keeps coming on intermittently, does any one have any ideas. The whale number costs me a fortune to ring on the 0845
