Hi, I have looked at all the posts regarding which Club to join but cannot find the answer to this hence my post.

I want to join the Caravan & Motorhome Club, as it's called now as their sites and CL's are in the locations I would like. What are the other benefits of joining. It has very sparse information unless you actually join and I don't want to join yet as it will be mid-October before I am able to go anywhere again. Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Suzanne

I like the clubs because you know exactly what you will get at their sites the site managers will help if you have a problem if possible , the site feel safe . If you like commercial sites with lots of singing and dancing don't join .
The facilities are always clean and tidy . Pitches offer nice spaces . You can join in rallies or groups if you want also their insurance is good.
If you want to go abroad they have offers on ferries etc .
I know you can get a lot of this with out joining but we like them . The only thing you can do is give it a try for a year . If you don't like it don't rejoin . Have you look at their web site. Also you tube have a lot of films of their sites.
We are in both clubs and like them both .
Good luck No I don't work for them ..

You also get a monthly magazine - can be a little repetitive after 20 odd years, but generally worth a read!

Go to the FAQ section on their website, have a look at the "top questions" then click on the right hand side FAQ categories to open the subjects up. These explain the benefits of membership. I use the club for its main uk sites, the Cl sites, and sometimes overseas sites and usually cheaper ferry or eurotunnel deals. You can phone them 01342 326 944 I'm sure they'll want to talk to you.

The biggest benefit must be that you can join the Mayday recovery service, you can also get into RSPB sites and they have discounts on many attractions.

I've been a member for years and its just because of the mayday service and their CL sites.

We gave up using CC sites a long time ago as there are commercial sites just as good or better for less cost than the CC.
We stay members for Mayday, Red Pennant and the CL network. The magazine is a waste of space and ends up in the bin.

We use it for Mayday, ferry bookings, insurance BUT insurance became very expensive this year and I had to change. However, sites are not cheap, but you know what you are getting. Wifi is not free. Some site loo blocks have seen better days. Beware, some sites do not have a loo blcok and you have to find the small print in the handbook, but some folk don't mind that.

Beware the 'warders' and smile at the 'wardens'

Mayday is shockingly expensive.
The main benefit I gained from being in the Caravan Club (as it was) is that I got very good at reversing so that the corner of my caravan was in line with a white post.
Thats before the penny dropped and I moved the post to where the caravan was.

Also got very good at keeping a straight face while they explained the diagram of how to arrange car, caravan and awning on the pitch for the millionth time.

Like you, I pitch up perfectly every time!   One 'warder' said he would help me pitch up. He did this by watching me reverse. I suppose he wanted to make sure I did not use the perfect pitching technique.

Thank you for your replies. I don't want to stay on the big sites to be honest. It is the CL network that I am interested in. I didn't know about the RSPB so that is a bonus too.

We like the Caravan and Motorhome club but rarely use their main sites now as they hav become too expensive. We have Mayday and Red Pennant Ince and also get cheaper ferry crossings. We also use their Red Pennant travel insurance. We have just come to Poland for a few days without the caravan and it works out very reasonable. You are also not asked a hundred and one questions about your health. It is so easy to take out their travel insurance whether it is for multiple trips or a single trip. Its definitely worth getting a quote.

I am a member of the C&CC. I do not use the Club Sites (too expensive) but like the CS network and the Temporary Holiday Sites (THS) as you can just turn up usually without booking. I also use the ferry booking service.

This suits our way of camping, others have different needs. Why not join for a year and see if it suits you?

I use Start Rescue, and have just renewed my cover for the 4th year at £45. I don't know how that compares for level of cover, and I must admit I haven't called them out yet so I don't know what their service is like.

As we never camp in the UK we gave up our membership after a year ...

Frankly the continental cover was feeble and pretty uninteresting.

ADAC.
I pay 109 Euros (£90).
For that we are both covered here and abroad for whatever we are driving. For us that covers two cars, a motorbike and a caravan. It includes getting vehicles home from the continent, air ambulance if the worst happens, hotel and car hire costs etc, etc, etc.
We go abroad with the caravan and sometimes on the bike.
Nobody else comes close.
We have had to use them twice in the UK. They subcontract to the AA who were poor the first time (didn't pick up the e-mails from ADAC0 and good the second time.
