Hi,
We have been caravanning for 4/5 years now but have only ever used our van with EHU.
At some point i think my husband tried the water pump when not connected to electricity but it didn't work so we assumed you had to be connected to EHU for it to work. We have since been told that it does work without EHU but we have no idea how to do this.   We have an Abbey Ventura 2002, with a whale water pump could anyone advise us how to see if our pump will work off the battery. I have had look in our paper work but not really seen anything that can help.
Many thanks

The pump will only work on 12 volt if the battery is ok. Are the other 12 volt lights etc working? If nothing works on the 12 volt system check the battery voltage, I expect you will find that the battery is low in which case you need to check the charger is working. You could also remove the battery and charge it and see if the pump etc work with a fully charged battery.

If the switch wasn't in the battery position then the lights would not work. I would check the battery voltage just to check that the battery is ok.

I thought all water pumps worked from the 12v system. In other words, from the battery and not the EHU. Although the EHU charging the battery will route through on some older caravans and just use the battery as a go-between. It sounds like you have either a flat battery, or...

If it's only lately stopped working and you have had a decent amount of pumping hours out of it, it could be that you just need to buy a new pump as they don't last forever.. in fact some don't even last for a season!
