Hi everyone. After 15 years of camping in a tent we have finally taken the plunge and bought a caravan. We've bought a 12 year old bailey ranger. Can't wait to start using it with our 2 young sons
Any one any tips for us newbies. Any dos or don'ts we should know about
Make sure your jockey wheel is straight, so when you hook up to the car you can pull it up into the recess with no problems and i won't get caught on the handbrake.
If you have a water hose connected to a tap on a pitch, make sure you don't forget the tap adaptor when you leave:(
When emptying the waste for the toilet, make sure you tell your children its out of bounds. I have 2 children, and one decided to have a poo when i was off emptying, not pleasent to come back to.
Following the guidelines and legal stuff will make sure you your family and other road users will be safe.
Pretty much everything else you will quickly pick up from experience, as you go - lots of us use checklists.
But, a couple of tips:
-Take a notepad, and when away list everything you come across that you want to fix, replace, or need, and deal with these when you come home. Over a few trips this will get everything the way you want it.
-Always think weight: always buy lightweight; do you really need it?; buy for the van, don't take old heavy stuff from home.
