We just went and upgraded our 2007 caravan to a 2011 Bailey Pegasus - which looks in fairly good condition etc, from a dealer. And then, as you do having just forked out a huge wad of dosh, suddenly found a pile of reviews criticising and complaining about Bailey build quality and leaks.

Should I now panic - or are there Bailey owners out there who will reassure me!

The bad ones appear to have leaks that manifest themselves as pools of water on floor corners leading to rotted floor if not fixed. If yours has dry floor corners with no signs water ingress now or previously then you should be ok 6yrs out from build. Any other minor age related faults with fixtures & fittings can occur in any caravan as it gets older. You only read about the bad ones on forums. If there is nothing to report then it won't get posted.

We purchased a new Bailey Pegasus GT65 Bologna in 2014. Apart from some very small niggles that were quickly remedied by the dealer, we couldn't be happier.

Phew - thank you.

We had such a good find with our first caravan, and it's still in such great condition, we are only changing after 2 years because the layout just didn't work for the family - so to discover we may be swapping to a dupe was very worrying.

Good feedback greatly appreciated.

We had a Bologna GT65 which was fine, no issues with water ingress.

Go to the right/wrong forum at the right/wrong time and you will find Bailey Bashing, Leaky Lunars, Soggy Swifts . . .

Last year we traded our much loved Lunar for a Bailey Pegasus Rimini which has turned out to be an even better van for us in terms of layout and ammenities. When we took the Lunar into the new dealer, Ropers of Catterick, they found that water had been getting in around the shower area and that the floor at the back was completely sodden. Because it was still under warranty (and I had paid the £25 to get it transferred into my name when we'd bought it a year earlier) the dealer did not even appear to flinch. They said "don't worry, we used to be Lunar dealers, we know the company, it will be repaired under warranty and not cost us anything"; and went on to complete the deal on the Bailey without any change.

I could have made a lot of comment at the time about Leaky Lunar and so on but I chose not to. Often in life people are quick to complain but not always so speedy to complement. Yes, there are Bailey caravans out there with problems but that is the same for all manufacturers. It's just you tend to hear more about the problems. I have never come onto the forum just to say "yay, I love my new Bailey and used it through the winter" but that's what happened . . .

In my limited caravanning experience I'd say that having a solid dealer you can trust is probably the most important thing. I never went back to the dealer we got the Lunar from (the amount of damp indicated that it might have been present when we purchased) but I would not hesitate to go to Ropers in the future.

We've had a 2010 Pegasus II Milan for a couple of years now. Love it. No problems with damp, breezed through this years service, and still has three or four years of ingress warranty on it anyway.

All caravans are riddled with access hatches, roof lights, windows etc all of which have to have seals to keep the water out. Any one of them can leak.

Maintenance is checking for water regularly and putting it right if you find it before major damage is done.

Poor quality control is rife in the industry.
You pay twenty grand for the privilege of doing their quality control for them and a bit extra to do the dealers PDI for them.
