after just returning from a weekend break in northumberland, i was wondering where to site the microwave in the van. Simply because every time we go away, we are humping it in and out of the awning. THEN i thought we dont even use it. So now, its in the garage collecting dust instead ofc collecting dust in caravan. So do you use your microwaves? I ask mainly to those vanners who where doing it like us and not to vanners who already have them built in, as its a lot of extra weight
We rarely use ours and probably wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there, however it came with the van. I must be honest I would think twice before replacing it if it broke down but each to their own life styles.

It comes in useful in the winter months for heating the beanie things the OH and DD use when it's chilly in the evening. I use it for heating milk for hot drinks, (we take a Nespresso coffee maker, and like to make our version of a latte). Great for making porridge in the mornings too.
Its an expensive bread bin according to my friend who has a built in one. We don't have I and I don't need one the odd time I took it
It was a waste of space. I can get cook everything I need on my caravan cooker.
Whether it is truly 'a waste of space' depends on the size of the van to which it is fitted. For us, having an extra cupboard, is unnecessary as there is plenty of room in other lockers.
Caravan MWs tend to be fairly (but not always) basic. However, there are other models that are multi function with MW, grill and oven included. If something like that were fitted, it could be an alternative to the gas oven for those who use EHUs.
What with the full gas cooker, MW, BBQ and other small appliances people take, there does seem to room for some rationalisation
we use ours all the time, as we do when at home! a good job really seeing as ours is fitted into the caravan, I take the view that the more I can cook on electric the better as it saves us paying out for the gas
We had a microwave/combo oven fitted in our 'van instead of a standard oven. We used it in France a lot one holiday when it rained every day, for heating ready meals. But only with EHU of course. Generally we prefer to cook outside.
We refused the microwave in the last van. We never used the oven. This van has a microwave, so we use it - to heat the milk for coffee. The oven - never use it. Given the size of a caravan, what is the point of two ovens?
Our microwave is one of our most important pieces of kit when it comes to feeding ourselves whilst away. We use it to reheat main course meals, cook fish, steam vegetables, make porridge, cook jacket potatoes, and warm milk for hot choccy, horlicks, ovaltine ect which my husband loves.
The microwave in our last caravan sat on the rear dinette table whilst on site, and traveled on the caravan floor. The caravan we have now the microwave has a fixed place in the purpose built unit opposite the kitchen area, and its quite a high spec model compaired to the basic one we used in our previous caravan.
