We clean ours from the inside standing on a 3 step set and sliding the skylight right over. I can reach about 80% of the roof that way and the rest is done from the outside using step ladders.

Have done this in the past but the storage yard we now use has a metal ramp that you walk up to the height of your van.Makes cleaning the van roof really easy.

Unfortunately our skylights are small and don't slide over. It would be great to have a metal ramp. We have a wall at the side of the drive but I don't think it is high enough. It looks like I will have to make do with step-ladder.
I have just spent £40 on a step ladder. I was thinking of a platform ladder but don't want to spend a lot as I am thinking of getting a caravan cover when we come back from february half term at york.
I have tried the stepladder and its ok, but I am going to try moving the van near to the wall and stand on that. Not today though.
we have used two ladders with a plank between them. but where we keep it now we cant do that. we just have a ladder the last time we leaned it against the side of the van and managed but there is no easy way. is there and vans seem to be getting higher. WHY?
I just bring a transit van home from work and park it inches away from the caravan.
I then have an 8' x 4' platform to stand on and use a long reach brush. Although not the safest option it is by far the easiest for me..
I only bother to clean the bits of the roof i can see. The dirty bit in the middle thats a nightmare to reach can only be seen by seagulls etc and all they want to do is make it even more dirty! But i must confess i do not clean the underside of the floor of my van and i never scrub the inside of the waste water piping either! Leave the roof be, bleach/milton the waste pipes occasionaly, forget the road grime on the underside of your caravan floor and enjoy camping in your van because that is what it was built for.
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
I only need to clean it because it is parked near a tree and I hate caravan roofs when they go green. I look down on it from our bedroom. I am certainly not paranoid about cleaning the van, except for inside and fridge, cooker etc.
I did fancy a platform ladder, but when she saw the price my wife said get a cheap ladder and she would clean the roof. Fine, I will let her get on with it. Except what that means is that it probably won't get done at all. She knows it bothers me more than her.
Hi brianconwy, B&Q did a small version of thier movable platform ladders, the big things with two wheels on it, i picked up one of these a few years ago, and it was £29.99, and it was in the builders section, round tubular steel, orange coloured and about four feet high, two foot wide, came flat packed, that and a long handleed brush should do you nicely and safely.last looked six months ago and think they where around £40. woth a look at your local or warehouse B&Q. hope this helps you.
