Hi Folks anyone got new motor with ad blue system, my Yeti run a round has the latest VW engine with this system. last week message flashed up on dash saying Add blue required 1500 miles left to motor min 1.25 gall max 1.25 gall.
I had covered 5787 miles since new when this flashed up. I purchased a bottle from BP garage contents 1.25 litres same spec as manual at a rip off price of £9,99 (since bought a 10 litre container at 85p per litre) with spout and funnel also exact same spec as manual. I presume the tank in the boot holds 1.25 galls when full ? Have you done more miles than this before topping up or less, manual does not give a mpg for add blue. its not for your toilet tank folks but added to your car exhaust to kill off all them nasty chemicals in your exhaust system also to clean it while injected in after the exhaust manifold. I am told if put in with fuel it will cause engine to seize ??????
Never ever put in fuel tank it is basically pigs pee. How much they use varies dependant upon a lot of factors. The ecu monitors these and uses accordingly.
If topping up yourself be very careful not to get it onto anything or you will never get the smell out also don't sniff it to much or you can damage your sense of smell. Common sense I know but worth noting.
It does its job well but not pleasant stuff
Hubbys Audi A5 uses adblue, after just over a year it has had to be filled up twice in 36000, he reckons about 10k miles between fill ups. He has filled it up himself twice, the containers he bought had a filler attached, but he still found it difficult.
His adblue tank is 20l capacity.
Working on my figures for second buy and mileage at warning it would workout approx. 85p per 1000 miles if my head maths are correct not bad really. PS manual stays is good paint remover and will stain carpets but not plastic.?? PSS forgot to mention 1.25L bottle screws to top of tank after cap is removed then press valve which allows contents into tank but will stop when full just release valve and unscrew bottle from tank and replace cap. bottle and valve not worth £9.
I have done 33kk miles in my A6 so far. I have checked the Adbue consumption since new and i always put in 10litres when the fill up message appears - my calculation is 440 miles per litre give or take 10 miles.
If you google AdBlue consumption you will find a very wide variety of figures!
Years ago, when adblue first came out, I think it was Scania trucks, decided to devote a massive chunk of their R&D department to 'getting round' the need for adblue...
As for petrol Vs diesel, they're both as bad as each other, and a cash cow for the government.
Manufacturers bring out a cleaner engine (be it petrol or diesel), and the government 'move the goal posts', (no doubt for the umpteenth time too).
So there're just no getting away from anything these days....

Dirty filthy Diesels !!! So much for the environment that they need a bottle of Pigs Urine to clean them up !!! Petrol all the way for me !! :)
My Discovery sport did about 6000 miles before ad blue needed topping up. It is part of my service package I just went in to my dealership first thing and they did it in about 15 mins, may be check whether your local dealer has similar service?

Yep, Diesel is history it's either going to be Petrol or Electric in the future, and towing a caravan will become a thing of the past.
At least us Tent campers will be in with a chance, it's the motorhome folk that I really feel for, thier world is fast comming to an end!
So we are going to get some nice big v8 petrol engines in our buses and trucks then. There is nothing to stop anybody towing with a petrol engine car.
