Hello, helpful ones.

In trying to buy a starter van and have seen a Sterckemann Starlett 430 DD.

Any gen on this make? It's not one I'd heard of. It looks fairly basic thigh that's not a problem in itself for me. Very lightweight. It's it a cheap/budget make or something?

Ta.

They are French and part of the Trigano Group.
Not sure what year you are looking at but this is quite helpful:

Main issue (on some sites) is the door is on the "wrong" side ie: it is on the offside rather than near side.

I am thinking of a Streckeman too. Not many over here but a few on the continent. Door on the wrong side has never been a issue as we have a Freedom. No gas grill is maybe a pain!
Good luck

Just been reading about the Sterckemanns which are fairly rare but not because of great quality. After reading through info on all folding caravans you may be better off with the Gobur (1st choice) or the Esterel (if in great condition). The Goburs are very well made and at most 20 years old. The Esterel's are good if kept in great condition and max 33 years old. Hoping to buy a good secondhand Gobur this weekend at approx £2K.

Best Starlett layout imho is the 420 which has kitchen & toilet at back. table & seats in middle & full sized double fixed bed across the front. Why can't the UK make caravans in that useful layout? They are well built caravans with composite sides with no wood frame. Standard is low spec but can be fitted with water heater etc. Nice one here.

We bought a Sterckeman in November, last year, in Germany ... £3K cheaper than buying it in UK.
We collected it in April ... we store it near Angers in France as we holiday, mostly, on the continent.
We are very happy with it ... so far ... only spent a couple of weeks in April in it ... so the real test will be our summer hols.
The design is superb ... it is lighter than comparably sized UK units ... and, yes, probably a bit flimsier in some of the spec ... maybe a factor to consider if you have a young family crashing about ... but for a 'mature' couple, it seems to be a joy ... and design wise, leaves British vans rather wanting (IMHO).
