Just got back from our first trip and have to say, it was brilliant! A total success! We had one or two little issues and things we had forgot but nothing major!
I have a question though, I didn't use the hot water all weekend purely because we just boiled the kettle or used the remaining hot water in kettle. Do you leave your carver water heater on all weekend or only when you want hot water?
When we arrive set everything up check hook up all working fill hot water tank then switch on and leave it on until we are a couple of hours before we leave

I always fill the hot water tank before connecting to the mains electric, just incase the water heater is switched on whilst empty. Then we just leave it on.

Being an older van our Carver only runs on gas. Therefore we tend to turn it on first thing each morning and turn it off when we go to bed, as we tend to turn the gas off at the bottle overnight. If we go out for more than a quick shopping trip we turn the gas bottle off too.
Blimey no wonder electricity charges are getting so high, or sites are fitting meters. Why leave it on all the time? Especially if you are only using it for washing up. What a waste of electricity. We turn it on a short time before needed, usually about 30-50 mins. And yes, we shower in our unit as well as wash up.
We don't have the choice, as having an older model we can only use gas to heat our water. However, it doesn't seem to use much gas anyway, and it's handy to have water "on tap" whenever we need it. I don't like leaving the gas on while we are away for any length of time or overnight though, so we tend to turn it off then at the bottle. It's probably not necessary, but I just feel safer that way.
It is probably best to leave it on all the time if on electric. If all turned them off at night and on in morning the site electrics could probably overload and trip.
They are fitted with thermostats so switch off when hot. That way only a proportion of them are actually using power at any time. If all switch on cold in morning a high proportion of them could all be using power at the same time.
