We had the same problem. We had an Avondale made around 88 or 89 and we couldn't find a lightweight porch awning to fit such a low rail height, they just didn't seem to make them. By chance we came across the Sunncamp Contempo which did fit fit but they only made it in this low height for one season, 2004, so the chances of finding one are very slim.

I think the only way you will find a porch awning to fit will be if you can find a traditional style porch awning that somebody used on a similar caravan of a similar age. Perhaps the Avondale owners club might have adverts for used equipment for sale that might include something suitable.

As you have already mentioned above all the new awnings fit a rail height of 235 or more and this is what we found when we were looking for an awning in 2005. Good luck with your search.

Rob

I have the same problem but my rail height is 215cm, NR do a low height porch awning but the price is more than I paid for my Dorema full size awning. I am still looking for a lightweight porch ar 215cm, drive away campavan awning's have been suggested but again expensive.

Somehow newer vans are higher. Increased headroom inside (we have 6'5") and bigger wheels.

Just wonder if you have enough room between the rail and top of your van to fix a new rail,or it may not be possible at all,I'm sure the more handy folk on here will give you/me an answer

As your caravan is a 1991 model does it have a roof shaped like an upside down boat with a centre seam down the middle from front to back?

I have the same problem and someone on here suggested that we raised the caravan using ramps and chocks on both sides to gain the height you need. We have never tried it as we decided to go with a waterproof canopy and windbreaks as seen in my gallery.

Yes, you are quite right. A caravan can be raised by the aid of ramps to gain extra height but there is a limit to the height you can achieve, that was the aim of my last post to the the OP but they haven't replied as to whether their caravan has a boat roof or not. If it is a boat roof then the difference in height (according to their measurements) is average around 20 cms. which is approximately 8 inches which they won't won't achieve by ramps only.
If the OP doesn't bother to reply then there is no point in trying to offer any further assistance in trying to find what they need.

Thanks for all the above ,the caravan does not have a boat roof ,I haven't had the chance to reply earlier .I have ramps ,so could raise the va using them ,I did this with a campervan in the past ,however the reason I bought the caravan I have is because of its light weight due to towing with a small car .I dont want load the cluth to much on each trip towing it up ,I could jack it up ,but would prefer to get a 225cm high awning if possible.

Thank you for your reply Maistro, at least it now eliminates the question of the boat roof.
The height you need to achieve then is around 10 centimetres which is about 4 inches so by using the ramp method is an alternative if you can't find the right height awning of 225 cms.

Glad you eventually got an awning that fits and for replying to your thread as it may possibly help others who have the same problem.
