hi ya all .. my name is nige and was wondering if anyone has got a old canavan they no longer need an could donate to us for me an my kidz .. we we could do up an use
thanks again..if anyone could help
There's a trailer tent going free on Facebook. Its a 1980's Bonaire in need of TLC. There is an issue with a wheel which needs attention so a trailer/flat bed is recommended to remove it. Its in Surrey.
You could ask at a caravan storage place near you, I am sure they will have some people who haven't paid for their space for ages and are well over due, but have left their old caravan there. This prevents the caravan storage place renting out the space again, I am sure they will want rid of a caravan or two. But bear in mind they will be fixer uppers as obviously their owners left them, probably the ones covered in green etc, but if you want a project there you go.

I see nothing wrong in Nige asking if anyone has a caravan going free. If you don't ask you don't get.
I'm all for Freecycle wants too. Managed to be given a decent wheelchair a few weeks ago so I could take an elderly lady out who couldn't walk very well.
I love Freecycle. I give away a lot of stuff as well.
I don't think it's the fact that someone has asked for something for free, it's more to the fact that the OP has been a member for nearly 4 years which is their first post without any other contribution to the forum which doesn't look favourably to other members that's all.
cant really see why he would put another post up to be honest reading the responses so far, as for first post in four years so ??? he might be using site for info circumstances might have changed a lot of people quick to judge it might be easier just to ignore the post
OK, play nicely please, could be any number of reasons why this chap has made this request, no need for sarky or mean replies please, those have been removed.
If I won the lottery tonight I'd buy Nige a decent caravan. Lots of families are going through a tough time these days.We shouldn't judge others especially when 'we're all right Jack.' Prices of holidays out of term time have gone through the roof. I've been short of money in the past when my children were small so I've an idea of what it feels like.
When our kids were young and we were short of money we started off by buying a cheap tent, and taking everyday pots and pans, bedding ect out of our house to use until we could afford better equipment. We lived off cold finger foods, and boiled the kettle on a small canister of gas with one of those backpackers tripods over it to form a hob.
Site fees were around £3 a night to camp on a basic farmers field with toilets and a single shower set up in the end of a disused cow shed, or on one site they were in a 'lean to' at the side of the owners house, and cold water only.
This prompted us to buy a washing up bowl for having a warm strip wash curtosy of a kettle of hot water being added to a gallon of cold, a big bath sponge to swill the kids down whilst they stood in it, and the bowl also doubled as a paddling pool and water play toy on a hot day, but was always kept for human washing and never the dishes or the kitchen stuff, we kept a separate one for that, which also doubled to keep the milk fresh during day by standing the then glass milk bottles in it filled with cold water. The kids loved it, and have all gone on to become campers themselves now with young families of their own.
A caravan can be an expensive thing to run and repair, even if it was an old one and donated for free, a tent is the much cheaper option, there are plenty of Cheap camping packages available from the large camping stores to be had, mostly with change out of £100 for the full starter kit brand new, or probably even cheaper if you have the time to look around the car boot sales and charity shops, freecycle ect, to find equipment secondhand.

Julia - lovely to hear about your early camping experience. You're right, it might be best to look for a tent. We started off about 8 years ago with a package from ebay, being sold locally. It consisted of a frame tent, tables, chairs, airbed, 2 ring gas cooker, cups, plates etc, even dustpan & brush and clothes pegs - all for £40! Some of it we're still using today.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
