A quick google reveals several caravan thefts in the area so presumably one would be looking for this & other caravans being used for off campsite residential purposes or perhaps a number of 'vans stored at a remote premises?
Stolen along with another Bailey on Nov 12th so any info will only be of assistance to insurance company by now I would guess?
I think once a caravan has gone then it's just down to insurance. The scenario of the caravan being delivered undamaged back to the owner next day is pretty unlikely. Even if the caravan was spotted being towed away it's unlikely there would be enough police available in a rural area early hours to organise any sort of pursuit.
If caravans are recovered it's often after police break up an organised gang & then the 'vans would be sent to auction by insurance co's to negate some of their losses.
I always wondered if this cris thing is actually worth it, or is it just another money making thing? I never had it on my folding camper.
Do they search for it or just inform the police like you would if went missing.

The value of Cris is mostly for buyers & does rely on a new owner to update with Cris. An owner should inform Cris of theft so it can be marked on Cris database. Anybody considering a caravan costing several £thou should pay the fee & check caravan with Cris before paying for caravan. If you buy secondhand from a reputable dealer then caravans should all be Cris checked by dealer before sale.
So provided at all stages Cris database has been updated, a Cris check will indicate to potential buyer if caravan is stolen. If anybody buys a stolen caravan 'in good faith' & later that caravan is discovered to be stolen then buyer will be relieved of caravan & that caravan returned to owner which will probably be insurance company(he can of course 'buy''his' caravan back from insurer). The buyer's only redress will be to sue whoever sold him the caravan.
Problem with Cris reg is that it remains voluntary. New UK built caravans are Cris reg, imported caravans are not & it is up to UK retailer or owner to do so, but no legal requirement. After that it is for subsequent owners to keep Cris updated.
Most other European countries register caravans same as cars, ie, in the UK this would mean caravans reg with DVLA with V5 & numberplate issued & change of ownership would require same procedure as cars, making a stolen caravan as difficult to sell on as a stolen car.
In the UK a stolen caravan can be sold on & on for yrs & probably never be found. The older it gets the less likely subsequent owners will be to bother Cris anyway.
Many new caravanners have no knowledge of Cris. I recall a thread on here where a caravan was bought, the owner then registered with Cris as new owner, caravan came up as stolen, probably several owners ago & caravan was taken away.
If you buy a caravan without a Cris check, the last thing you should do on earth is then update with Cris.
I'm speculating now but I would guess that most thefts of large late model caravans are by organised gangs who are part of a specific community. Those stolen caravans will be sold on within that community & used for residential for a few yrs, after which they will be sold on via ebay or autotrader & revert back to touring use for the rest of their lives. The subsequent owners will not trouble Cris & the caravans remain unrecovered.
The only way an unwitting buyer of a stolen caravan may come unstuck apart from updating with Cris is if he is stopped in some random police caravan check, this can happen but it's pretty unlikely.
Hope they get there van back,Thats if they want it back.Must be awfull to have your van nicked, Mine is chipped and Tracker, insurrance reasons, But if it was nicked, I dont want the thing back!
