Should I go back to a two berth caravan . We have the two fixed bed singles at the moment .
I love the layout and comfort. But we are looking to change . I have looked at the same make and layout as we have now . But it seems slightly longer and a think a little heavier. Plus we have had a lot of problems with this van so would I stupid to have another.
The van I really really would like is a coachman . Either vision or pastiche , the same layout as mine is very small in the front and a lot longer also much heavier. So I am looking at the side dinette layout or the two berth . Length and weight of these seem fine . Although I need to check again.
Has anyone gone back from fixed beds to these layouts .
How much can you cope with tidying everything up from the sofa area to make up a bed each night?
I wanted a caravan for years and years - two decades probably - and one of the main reasons for not taking the plunge sooner was not wanting the hassle of making up the bed each night. Our Lunar as a FB which is great
The other side of the argument is what our friends do - they have a Bailey Unicorn Madrid and use the two long sofas as individual single beds (he's 6' tall). They just roll out a sleeping bag and that's it, no moving cushions around, no faff. It is 7.37m though, might be too big for what you want.
Our friends had a two berth with a side dinette. They loved it - they kept the bed made up all the time and just used the dinette to read relax etc.
Personally - I like my fixed bed (Island Bed at the rear) - with the loo and shower in the centre. I can close off the lounge from the bedroom (A proper door) and go to bed early while the wife is watching TV.
Back in 1989 after having had four previous 4 berth vans we decided to go to a 2 berth.Biggest mistake we made, and sold it a year later.We are now on our seventh van later with a side dinette and we have the best of both worlds.Can sleep at front as 2 singles without making bed up and we have a dining area without having to get a table out and still a nice size end wash-room.

After 9.5 years having a 4 berth with fixed bed, some of the reasons have been mention above, we have now purchased a new 2 berth!! slightly larger, higher mtplm; but the wife liked the large rear wash room with a big wardrobe, large shower, toilet and plenty of room to move about. Now it's back to sleeping bags instead of a duvet.
We went from a 4 berth Lunar to a two berth Elddis with the two comfy front benches being used as instant singles at night just by unrolling a sleeping bag each. We have the lovely rear washroom with large wardrobe and plenty of storage space, tge whole feel of the interior is spacious and airy with the extra side unit and workspace in the kitchen, all in a 462cm bodied caravan with a max weight of around 1300kg depending if you have the optional weight upgrade or not.
Im not a fan of fixed beds, climbing over eachother to get to the loo during the night, difficulty accessing the over bed lockers without standing on the bed, and the cut off corners which can make for chilly feet if both occupants are tall people and one has to sleep on the shortened side, plus the amount of onboard space they take up during the day, where a dinette would be more practical, make them an unwelcome option for me.

We are changing from a fixed bed to the Pastiche with dinette model. Expecting to take delivery Jan/Feb next year. Our reasoning was only a small time is spent in bed and the fixed bed models take up so much space, this giving us much more room. We don't see making the bed up last thing at night/first thing in a morning as a pain as I am out walking the dogs and my o/h has it done in a matter of mins. We do intend using it as two singles using duvalays.
I think the real big advantage of fixed bed is being able to go to bed and get up at different times.
If both do at the same time there is very little advantage because of the big losses elsewhere such as a poky little washroom, small lounge or having a huge great monster to tow.

I do love the lay out .fixed twin singles I think it has to be one of the best for comfort. Yes a small bathroom but that is no problem . Wardrobe in bathroom as well .
Nice spacious living area.

other makes with this lay out are longer in length and heavier. Also living areas are claustrophobic and the seating very small . They have a very closed in feeling . So I have looked at the two berth or side dinette . Both good in length and weight . The side dinette would give us the choice to leave beds made up with throws so we could sit or lounge on in the day .
If not should I go for the same make as we have now and hope they have improved on quality .
I don't want to make a mistake . We moved from coachman to the van we have now . And have regretted it .yet we are happy with the layout ,
