i have a small area of damp in the end kitchen cupboard, i found the leak and repaired it (awning screw in at an angle) i started to dry out the damp with a fan heater on low for a few days, i cut a small 2 inch hole in the panel board and fitted a vent cover ----no go-------so i tried a dehumidifier for a few days ---still getting readings in the red----seems this is going to take forever???? any suggestions would be welcome
No definitely from awning screw I had a 45w tube heater which dried out the top edge, been raining all day and tonight I put my meter on it and still dry, lower down is where the damp is..I am going to try and get some air circulation round the area and leave it for a good few days see if my damp reading drops
use the dehumidifier but it will take ages the only quick way is to take off the vinyl wall covering dry it out and re vinyl it.
If its not a big area just leave it and it will eventually dry up but could take months with the vinyl on the moisture cannot escape.
Just warming the area up wont work at all just creates condensation behind the panel,Needs small amount of vinyl removing, such as a hole drilling and a vent placing in it so damp can escape,Just circulation will dry it out eventually,Heat will just cause bacteria.

Using heat isn't the best way to go as the o/p said.
Small holes in the vinyl does help.
Ive done hundreds of vans.
If it's just damp a few holes or slits in the vinyl and a dehumidifier will do it.
If it's worse or soft the vinyl needs replacing or the 3mm board replacing.
With the board of the whole area dries off really quickly.
Use a good quality panel glue like Apollo.
