Last night we had the worst thunderstorm i have ever witnessed over the town. We had hailstones as big as...well i dont know how big they were because it was dark and was mixed with torrential rain, but the noise on the steel garage roof adjacent was deafening.
The upshot is our caravan roof is riddled with pock marks. All over the top, and on the ends where it slopes down. A nearby corrugated plastic lean-to has also been punched through in numerous places - like bullet holes.
Do caravan insurances cover such as storm damage, or is it seen as an 'act of God'? I could live with it just being on the top of the roof, but as its visible from both ends as well, it doesnt look good, and will definitely affect resale.
Sorry to hear about your caravan, if it is insured then I hope you manage to sort something out.
I must be the only one who missed all last night's fun. It started thundering and lightning while I was out with the dogs, I'd just got back home when the rain started. Had to dash out to close the passenger side windows of the van and it was only raining hard then - a few people I've spoken to this morning have mentioned the hailstone but I wasn't aware of any.

I have a very temperamental personality - 50% temper and 50% mental
We had a light lightening, didn't hear any thunder and no rain...well that sure makes a change!

sorry to hear about the damage to the van roof, I guess this is were a van cover comes in, I dont like the things, but they will save the roof when this hail comes.

Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
Sorry to hear about your 'van Mick - I hope the insurance will sort it for you.
I'm in West Yorkshire and we certainly hadn't even had any thunder by 1130pm, and I had the bedroom window wide open (and the curtains open a little to let some air flow) and didn't hear a thing during the night - so I don't think we had a storm at all - this brute must have been very localised.
Unfortunately I think a storm will be classed as an act of God but it's worth asking. It'll probably be quite a big job to sort it out. I sympathise with you.
I don't know whether we had a storm here last night or not, I normally sleep through them anyway.
About 4 years ago, we had a similar hailstorm. They were as big as golf balls. My friends caravan was badly damaged by it, insurers wrote the van off. Probably because of repair costs. They got their money though!

where I am just south of Stockton on tees we first had it at 3.00pm and was the most scary storm I have experienced for a long long time the hail stones where incredible as was the thunder and lightening that past us in about 15 mins then again last night around 12.00 we had a lightening storm, no thunder no rain no hail, the temperature didn't drop at all and was still a very clammy night, praying tonight the temp drops and I can catch up on some sleep
In Huddersfield,no rain or thunder but just after 11pm we had the best lightening ever, it was fantastic.Heard reports all around us of heavy rain and very large hail stones. Our van is in storage near Chesterfield and won't be out in it for another couple of weeks so who knows what we will find.
we have just had a call from storage yard our caravan as well as 50 others have been damaged, our sky light roof and side of van has been damaged, havnt been up yet as at work
Some yeas ago there was a storm on the continent with huge hailstones which did considerable damage to motorhomes and caravans. After all they only made of tin!!
It was put down to an act of god.
For god , read insurers
On a FB caravan forum today someone had posted the damage to his van. His insurers are covering it.
