Hi im new to caravanning and now the proud owner of a bailey ranger 2003. It has a tv ariel but i have yet to purchase a tv and i have no idea what i need other than the tv itself any advice would be great
Its up to you really, we have a 22" flatscreen cheap thing from currys, the reason we chose it is because its actually a 12volt tv so we can use it off the battery, you have a look on the tv power adaptor and see what the output voltage is, or it may say on the back of the tv.
make sure its a digital tv, they all should be now, we also have a suitcase satellite kit for sites that dont get tv signals.
you can buy tvs specifically for 12volt but they are 3 times the price and we have never had an issue with our cheap alternative.
if you go down this route and need to use it on 12v you can buy the 12v plug from caravan shops and the plug for the tv from maplins.
it also has the usual usb input so great for taking a portable hard drive with films on, great for those wet cold evenings when theres nowt on the box!
The choice of TV is entirely yours, we have had 1 that was purchased from Asda, nice unit, that is now fixed in the spare bedroom and we have upgraded to the Avtex 22 inch with built in satellite decoder. We also carry a satellite dish and a long coax lead to plug into the on site bollard for terrestrial TV if available.
Some cheap TV's don't play video files so take a memory stick with you and make sure it plays MP4 files, ours also plays MKVs and avi files. Our 16GB memory stick can hold about 20 films so you don't need a hard drive nowadays... Oh and DVD discs are prehistoric lol
Nice information flek2, we also use a similar system albeit on a portable hard drive. The reason we take movies with us on a hard drive is to pass away the long winter nights on site when there is nothing but rubbish on TV.
When you're away for 10 weeks Bob, and you watch a film a night in bed (the evening matinee 😊) it's not as many as you think. Also it does rain occasionally in Spain.
You may find that the 22inc cheaper screens have limited viewing angles. This is becouse they use cheap panels LG and Samsung all have 170 degree pannals so may be good unto keep to known TV makes.
Polarid have 120 degree panels.

That's right, I made that mistake bought one a few years ago from Tesco pictures OK but the viewing angle is naff.

I got fed up with our cheap tv because of the viewing angle and the reflection on the screen.
I've just bought a Samsung 19" (about £130) which can be viewed from very wide angles, fantastic picture and no reflections on the screen.
It is 230Vac only but I run it with a 300W invertor bought from Maplin, claims to be 95% efficient. The tv runs at 18W so altogether it consumes just about 20W. I don't use EHU either.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
