hi all, I'm looking at caravans, the only I problem I have is my driveway. Though long the width is only 2.3m with walls either side.
Is this mega tight? Is there anyone that still manages this ok?
And if so how do I get the motor movers off? Or don't ?
Thanks any help appreciated from a caravan novice.

If you want med or large size caravan most are around 2.3 width. Smaller vans are 2.1 or so.

Our Adria is 2.29m wide, so that is a bit tight. About as tight as getting our Pennine is our garage, and we gave up on that idea after a scratch and torn top cover

Oh b*** I was hoping you was going to say yeah with a motor you'll be ok.
Ok next question then, option 2, my dad has big garden but would have to travel a long way to get it out, plus up a steep driveway coming out onto the road.
So how long does a motor mover last on a a battery?

Much too tight the motor mover will be moved off line by a small stone by your tolerances

I looked at the same with my gateway at 2.4 and it was too tight

We have less than 4 inches clearance getting the van down the drive, but it does open out at the rear of the house.

I still work in old money (I`m 5 ft 10ins, I drive 25 thousand miles a year, road signs give me distances in miles and yards) and our van is 7ft 1ins wide - the norm seems to be 7ft 6ins nowadays which is why my money will stay in my back pocket.

When I bought the van it was subject to it fitting down the driveway. Kenmore delivered it with four guys from the workshop to try it for size, it was too tight to manhandle but would fit with with a mover, which it does.

The narrower vans are out there - may not be new but they are there. I could`t say how far a mover will last on a battery as I`ve never come close to it failing, but there are so many variables - type of mover, terrain, incline, size and condition of battery, weight of van etc it would be difficult to estimate.

Don`t give up just yet.

How steep is steep Mr T - its whether the van would ground I guess.
A fully charged decent capacity battery should be fine to move a van a decent way (have a second battery for distance stored at your parents)

I would also look at storage sites though, you may find a insurance is cheaper so a small saving there off cost of storage and no need for a mover maybe which also saves you maybe 25/30kg of payload and £500+

A caravan (modern one anyway) almost certainly will cost you more than your FC does in servicing, insurance and storage - I would certainly never claim otherwise

On a fully charged battery, at least a couple of hours of running you may be surprised to learn.

I have a similar problem as the OP.
My drive has gable of house on one side and solid wall on other side.

It is 7" or 18cm wider than my caravan and also has a very steep slope in part of the drive. So I have approx 3.5" or 9cm each side to play with.

In total from top of my drive to back of garden where the van parks is about 85 Feet, part paving and the rest stone chips.

That is the reason I have a MM which does the job brilliantly, have it on slow speed and just needs a small tweek now and again as MM's seldom move in a perfect straight line anyway.

Edit..sorry should have said caravan is 2.14m wide

Dont forget some motor movers need re booting by the main switch next to the batt. If you cant get to it you will be in trouble.

Would need to be idle for a bit for that to happen and its generally the remote that will go to sleep first and just power it back up in seconds. Thats how it is with my Powrtouch HD anyway..

Bailey Pursuit & Pegasus 2.23m wide. Steering with a motor mover depends on position of jockey wheel to some extent. Going backwards is fine then when you change to forwards the jockey wheel has to swing round moving the van off its course.

Any dips in the drive will make it lean over.

You can get a folding caravan called a Gobur in a slimline width (5'10" I think) but usually only 2 berth.

How will you open the door.
