Bought a new Awning, pole type, and being newbs still is it better to set the frame up 1st?

I'm guessing no...

Slide the awning into the rail, then 'build' the frame from the inside, as the awning rail is holding up half the weight etc, rather than fight with a wobbly frame while trying to then line up and sliding it into the rail.

On our big awning, we found removing the windows too to make life even easier when erecting...

NO!   Sort out what poles go where and place on the ground nearby then slide the awning on to the van and dive under and start having fun!

Then after that put the awning up

After nearly 60 years, failing eyesight, arthritic fingers, lack of strength and, I am sure, deafness in the other person, we have many a full and frank discussion.

Our putting up the awning keeps other campers amused for hours

The wind always comes up as the awning comes out-or is about to be packed up!
We can put our full awning up in about 40 minutes without a row!
Slide canvas in, lay poles out then build it from centre out.
I do the high bits on van side using the step, she holds the front. Once on I peg it while she makes a cuppa or gets a cold one out!

That is the secret, do the awning by yourself only involve your partner to hold the canvas if the wind makes that essential.
If it is the centre ridge pole with vertical pole design then put those poles in as soon as the canvas is run through; then you have a stable self supporting structure and can fill poles in at your leisure. Coming down remove them last.

In view of the difficulties I'm surprised sites don't offer an erection service for a high fee of course. I'm sure there would be a big take up.
