Problem we found with the pad poles was that with one side of the awning going straight down the middle of the lounge window, and that being bowed (as they are), it simply meant that that pole had to be at an angle because of the bow. If you don't use the ploes and make sure that you peg down that corner of the awning just under your van, that pulls the fabric back on to the van sufficient to stop any rain getting in. First time we put it up it must have been over an hour but we are down to 40ish minutes now. Trickiest part is putting the inside poles in place. Put them together first and lay them on the ground in their approximate location and then thread the awning through the rail. Peg down the corners nearest the van as that will hold your awning in the right spot whilst you fix the outside poles. Get the outside poles in place. We start with the right hand side one (as you face the van) then the left hand one and then the two middle. Each pole is attached to the awning by a peg which is sewn on to a strap sewn on to the awning. That peg fits inside the end of a pole. You may need to loosen the strap on that peg to make sure you have plenty of room to turn the peg up into the pole. Once the pole and peg are together then you tighten the peg strap. Once an end pole is in place hold it in place with the storm strap. Then you need to line those outside poles up so that they are in a straight line and peg them in loosely as you may need to adjust once the inside pole is in place. Go into the anwing and both of you lift the inside pole on to the zipped sleeves at the front of the awning. Adjust its length so that it fits into each corner. Then fit the sides into the side zipped sleeves and then line up the down pole with the diagonal seam on the awning and attach the peg into the bottom of the pole and then hammer a rock peg through the ring at the bottom of the pole just to hold it in place. Then adjust the length of the side pole so that it fits from the corner of the awning to the ground. To fit it into the roof corner you may also need to adjust the part of this fitting that runs across the roof of the awning. That's the faffy bit. Bit more this way, then a bit more that way, down a bit, up a bit. Once its right tie the poles in place with the ties sewn on to the awning. What you can easily do is make the pole that runs along the roof too long and the sides of the awning then stick out and you end up with a dog leg side rather than a side that is square to the van. Sounds complicated when its written down, but all will be obvious once you start putting it up Once the inside is done check the line of the front outside poles and if they are straight then hammer home your rock pegs, and fit the rest of the rock pegs. Along the front and back of the awning(running along the ground) is an adjustable strap which helps to pul lthe awning square. Your front poles should be along the line of that strap. The skirt fits under that strap inside the awning. It doesn't come with a carpet. We bought a length of breathable plastic carpet to fit. The draft skirt for the lower awning rail needs to be purchased separately. Most accessory shops sell them by whatever length you need and they cut it to suit. Get one that is a bit longer than your awning. One tip, get out your felt tip pen. Before you go out with your van lay the awning out and work out which way it should be threaded into the awning. Its kind of upside down so that as you pull it through the rail it ends the right way up, if you see what I mean. Then once you have worked out which end of the awning you put into the awning rail mark that with the felt tip. I have marked mine so that the "spot" I have marked will face the door of the van as I thread it through the rail at the back of the van. By doing this you will always get it the right way up everytime. You don't want to be on site and fit the thing upside down with folk watching you!!!! Trust me -when you get any kind of awning out of the bag its hard to work out which way up it should be threaded through the awning rail to end the right way up. Enjoy Phil
