Can someone let me know if it's normal to feel like you're been pushed into the side of a wagon with trailer (40ft trailer) when over taking them?
The wind just seems to grad our caravan when passing although it doesn't happen all the time
Seems worse in France

Yes it is perfectly normal.
The reason it seems worse in France is that the motorway lanes are slightly narrower there.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I have found the worst is car transporters, once you follow one of those it throws you all over it must be the turbulence the array of vehicles it is carrying produces, I try not to get caught behind those if I can help it.

It's quiet scary for me been a passenger. I'm a terrible passenger when towing the caravan. We are new though to towing this year but enjoying the up grade from a tent

I always went as near to the hard shoulder as i dare when i saw a truck bus,or artic over taking me as you get sucked in towards it at first then, blown back just when it passed.
Before trucks had speed limiters they used to roar passed caravans and it would shake you about a bit. I find when overtaking trucks nowadays that I don't feel anything but I only two at 70% ratio so this probably helps.
I was overtaken by a truck carrying concrete pipes last week. It then pulled in front and I was stuck behind it. The turbulence was terrible. Was battering us all over the place. Eventually I sped up and overtook it. Best to maintain 60 and pass the trucks. But it's also good to tuck in behind a faster moving truck (don't know how but some trucks seem to do 58-60 mph) and follow their slip stream to save fuel.
I was once trying to overtake a lorry on the M62 when I ended in the middle lane going down hill along side it. I was then overtaken by a lorry in the outside lane. I got it from both sides. Wasn't sure if I should brake or not. Basically we moved so much. I managed to slow enough to to get in behind the lorry. Spent the rest of journey at 50mph with my OH not speaking to me!
Yes it is normal and you just go with it, same as a racing driver. You are strapped in, holding a steering wheel so don't try to fight it, lean with the turns, go with the vehicle. Forward observation is the key, look up the road as far as possible then you can at all times see situations building and you have time to react accordingly.
Also check for trucks in your mirrors, on a downward incline they will speed up faster than their 56mph limiter so increase your speed or they will end up halfway past you and then get stuck when you start going uphill.
Also some of the continentals can well exceed 60 mph, I was overtaken by one whilst doing 70 mph ( not towing ) on the motorway and on the flat not down an incline.

But new speed limits or lorry's as gone from 56 to 60 mph this year. So older units will remain at 56 until they go for there speed limiter checks, then they also will be re-set to 60 mph. And thats or both motorway and dual carriage ways, and i think 50 mph on single carriage ways instead of 40.
