Is it me, or is it scammers week!!???

Got our van currently up for sale, and we've had (so far), three different 'tryers-on' wanting to buy our van this week alone.

Doing the usual 'I'm now your favourite buyer - send me YOUR PayPal ID - I'll arrange shipping, yada yada yada!!!

Get the picture?

The three emails have come from 'different' places, yet the wording is identical - as if it's scripted!?

But, I've also noticed they always seem to use a gmail address. (Worth noting??)

Just getting pee'd off now with them wasting our time when I reply to their first question, then get the 'script'...

A friend has a sailing dinghy for sale probably worth 2.5K. He's been offered more than the asking price if he takes a cheque. He hasn't bitten.

Yeah the wifes friend got a cheque for £2000 instead of £200. Buyer said cash it and we can sort it out later we trust you.

Yeah right who in their right mind would tell someone to cash a £2000 cheque for an item worth £200?

The obvious scammers are the least of the worries,just emails to delete, far worse are the time wasters, no showers and dreamers taking up your actual time. Its why dealers offer such low trade in prices, you are paying them to take away the aggro of private selling.

It's the first email asking 'is the van still for sale??'

Er, yes!! That's why it's still LISTED!!!

Then you get the 'script' of 'Consider me as your favourite buyer etc etc'.

It's 5 minutes of my life I can't get back when I've got to go about deleting the 'chaff from the wheat'!

The part exchange price principle hasn't altered over the years and was the same before the internet. The dealer makes a percentage profit on the px whilst comparing what he is going to make on the new van. He will offer you more, or less, when he sees the van but will still have a minimum margin he hopes to make.

The trade in prices are always abysmal, the forecourt price is always a big markup on that, owners sell privately because they hope to make more money, they have to work for that extra money, often harder than they ever realised. However you view it, when you trade in you are paying for a service.
