Hi, never towed a caravan fitted with ATC/IDC but I,ve managed without all these years, would I rather keep the £500 in my pocket probably yes. guess you will only notice its fitted if you get a problem so would rather drive to avoid that. but you pays your money and takes your choice.

Have had Alko ATC on my last 4 vans and would not be without it. Belt and braces for when things outwith your control go wrong.

Towed many thousands of miles without it on previous 'vans, but unlike the previous poster I would rather invest the £500 in ATC/IDC than have it in the bank!

It's like most things, you don't appreciate them till you need them. It still means that care needs to be taken with loading but I like the fact that I have it as a back-up should things turn nasty.

I have owned ten vans over the last 42 years that never had it.Our present van has it as standard fitment and i do not notice any difference when towing, but have the knowledge that it should operate if required.

Much like seat belts, not any use most of the time but can be vital; whether it is "worth it" or not depends the value you put on your van, your car, your well being and that of those that travel with you.
Personally just like seat belts I believe it is fantastic value judged against the list above. Like seat belts I believe it ought to be compulsory now the technology is there and affordable.
