I have just purchased a 2006 coachman amara 380/2. On the first trip out we noticed the water pump keeps ticking after being taps have been closed. Water tank is full (using hose directly to tank system) water taps seen to have good pressure and no leaks that I can see. I'm turning pump on and off when I require water. Also when main tank is full does this menthe hot water tank is full also.

Your water pressure switch may need a little tweek. I'm presuming it isn't a microswitch system. WWhat make of water pump is used?

This is one of the minor problems with pressure-switched systems. All it takes is a tiny air leak in the system causing a tiny pressure drop after all the taps are turned off and the pump will keep cycling, trying to maintain the pressure. Sometimes tweaking the pressure-switch adjustment will cure it, sometimes it won't. Worth a try though.

Had same problem when I purchased my van pump kicked in several times through day & night found shower tap not in off position ( shower not running as shower head has trigger on it) once turned off all OK

The way the water system works is when you turn on a hot or cold water tap, the pressure drops instantly which triggers the pressure switch. This activates the water pump in the water barrel and delivers water till you turn off all the taps which takes a few seconds for the water system to re-pressurise again. During the few seconds of re-pressurising is the ticking you can hear which is normal but it should continue for around 5 to 6 seconds when the pump light goes out. If it's any longer than 6 seconds then the pressure switch needs re-adjusting via the circular dial on top of the pressure switch. It's trial and error to get it right so it's a matter of getting an assistant to turn on the tap and off again whilst you reset the dial.

If pressure switch adjustment does not cure it most likely will be the non return valve.

Sometimes even the hot water cooling down will cause this through pressure drops. Ive never managed to cure it 100%, despite tweaks at every single stay. And sometimes voltage changes will also have the pump twitching, especially switching from 12v to 230.

OP is saying "Water tank is full (using hose directly to tank system)".

This sounds like an onboard tank so maybe 2 pumps. I'm not familiar with these systems.

A 2006 Coachman Amara had a Truma hot water tank installed along with a single water inlet housing as standard so it won't have an onboard water tank, not unless one was installed afterwards.

Thanks everyone for your info.
The water tank is filled directly via a hose from a out side tap. I notice that the tank never fills up completely as a air pocket forms and I don't want to blow or split the tank by to much pressure. Has anyone ever fitted a non return valve to allow the air to escape and allow tank completely fill

If there is trapped air in the hot water tank which is above the water level then when you open a tap the trapped air should be pushed through the water system and released via the mains water pressure. The non return valve only stops the water returning when a water barrel is being used which is why if I'm connected to a mains water supply I prefer to use a water barrel with the float system inserted through the side cap as the float shuts off the water supply which is based on the same principle as a domestic flush toilet.
