Seriously giving some thought to getting a caravan and quite like the Bailey 550/6 Ranger. I have a Laguna III Estate 2.0dci 150bhp 2011 model. I can't change my car at the moment. Quite a few people on forums etc are saying that Renault quote weight figures etc as driver only so the true maximum weight you are able to tow is very low. My handbook for my car says 1500kg. Can anybody help?

Just check the gross train weight. With my car the max tow and max laden weight for the car is greater than the cars gross train weight.

So i need to load the car less or tow less.

My gross car + max tow is just over 3900kg. But my cars max train weight is only 3720kg.

I didn't realise that, I looked at my weight plate and my max train weight is the max gross of car and max tow which comes to 5600kg, I think I'll be ok!

Hi Guys thanks for your replies. Do I have this right as nowhere in my handbook does it refer to driver only. It says 'Maximum permissible all-up weight 2051KG. So I assume that is the car fully loaded. It does not state a kerb weight. Total train weight 3551kg. So 3551 - 2051 = 1500kg. Is this my max loaded caravan weight? Most of the time the car will have me and two kids packed light. On the odd occasion my wife may come with us although most times she brings her car also when we go camping with stuff in as she need to return home before us for work.
