Hi all, Just wondered if anyone has used one of these mi fi portable internet routers. I was thinking of getting one for use in the caravan and there are plenty of them available on amazon with great reviews but unfortunately I don't always believe reviews on amazon are genuine so just wondered if anyone has used one and could comment please, Thanks.
We use the pay as you go mi fi from Vodafone. £20 from Argos. Found it very simple to use and very quick with the iPad. Signal strength has Been good everywhere so far. Lasts about 5 hours on a charge with normal use. Pleased so far.
I got a wifi hotspot on 3 contract, works well enough that we can watch iplayer or movies on netfix uaing a chromecast in the caravan tv. Got to be a bit careful on data usage as I couldn't find anyone offering unlimited data like on a phone.
Hi , we use a T-Mobile one , it saved my life one year when we managed to lure our teenage son to Devon on the promise of wifi at the site we were going too , however they were having problems with their wifi , so I went into a nearby town and luckily managed to buy the last one they had in the shop ,believe me my son without internet for a whole week would of been a holiday from hell ,hence they get a big thumbs up from me
We opted to buy a travel router from Netgear. We can extend existing wifi networks or attach to a phone hot spot. As such we can then have a ring fenced network behind a firewall for many devices. Even if the wifi is single use only. We did look at at a mifi a while ago but was unsure of data costs in Europe.
We have a Three MiFi which has been on contract at £5.29 per month for 1GB. Contract has now finished and we have bought a 12GB PAYG card which lasts a year. Great for the caravan as we no longer have to buy a top up if we use up our 1GB while away.
We use a Three payg mifi device. We top up with a 3 gigabyte card which usually lasts us a coulle of months connecting two ipads to it. Am thinking of buying the new EE 4g one (the Osprey) costs 49.99 with a 6gb data card included. When this runs out they cost approx £14.99 to renew. Dont forget though with payg, once the card has been activated it is time limited, the 3g ones last 90 days or until the data runs out, the 12g one 12 months or until the data runs out. They are great to have and we wouldnt be without ours, very handy for nights and rainy days lol
Thanks for the replies, I was looking at the huwaei (think thats how you spell it) they are unlocked so you can insert any sim. They are on amazon for about £34.00 then I will buy a payg sim.
It is basically for the caravan for a bit of web browsing and maybe watching sky on my iPad.
Just thought id mention, almost any old android phone (most people have something stuffed in a drawer from an old contract these days) can just be used as a mobile wifi hotspot..... Giffgaff do 5GB for 15 quid, and as they are on the o2 network have pretty good coverage.... Tmobile used to be the best, as if you hit your limit, they would just slow you down to dialup speed, which was still useable for browsing and email, but now they have merged to EE i dont think they do that any more..... we just spent a week in devon, 3 students studying and downloading study documents, and we used 2gb.... happy days.. :)
Anyway, ive rambled, yeah, my point was any android phone can be used as a hot spot :)
