I spent an hour yesterday scrambling under the van and attempting to fasten the Kojack brackets to the chassis. The nearside (door side) was fine, and fitted into two holes just behind the wheel. But when I came to do the off-side there were no corresponding holes for the bolts, and absolutely nowhere to attach the bracket.

Now, I thought the Kojack was supposed to fit any Al-ko chassis made after 1992. Not mine it don't!!!

Anyone else with a Bailey Ranger 510/4 (made 2004) managed to fit one? Am I doing something wrong or missing something obvious? What do I do now - I have a half-jackable caravan!

If the chassis can withstand two holes on one side then I would think it would endure having two holes drilled in the other side in exactly the same place.  Try contacting alko and see if they would recommend this.

Their ad says 'The brackets for the KoJack are designed to fit the majority of AL-KO caravan chassis from 1992 onwards and most BPW chassis from 2001 onwards. The brackets bolt onto the caravan chassis utilising two holes, with a distance of 55mm centre to centre, that are pre-drilled. These holes are usually located close to the wheels to the rear of the axle.
Please check your chassis to ensure suitability ie. a visual check and measurement of the pre-drilled holes for verification
'.

Sorry, not much help I know.

Thing is, until you've got the brackets in your hand it's not obvious what holes they are talking about. There are holes - lots of holes - but not the correct holes.

And regardless of what the ad may say, the actual box for the jack reads: "Suitable for AL-KO Caravan chassis from 1992 onwards". There's no qualification about "majority of" or whatever.

And I do know it's absolutely not done to drill extra holes into the chassis!

SOunds like a money back job,  why not investigate a small trolley jack - on eof the aluminium lighter weight ones - not a lot heavier than the Kojak; always remembering to secure it well in the van or the car.

Ihad the same problem with my Burstner,I resolved it by drilling some holes in the Kojack bracket to match some holes in the chassis.
Ihave just taken them off and dumped them in the skip as I wasn't happy with the set up and just carry a small trolley Jack which is a lot lighter.

Thanks for that, Michael. I did that search before posting this thread - can't see any that specifically cover this topic, though.

Hi there, I would do as 'brianconwy' has recomened and contact Alko, it seems very strange that the holes are on one side and not on the other ??

I sympathise with fitting the brackets as I have just done the same on my Swift (2004) last week and it is a dog of a job  but i feel alot happier now that I can jack the van up to change the wheel.

I've emailed the manufacturers (Purple Line) to see what they can advise.

Fitting the brackets isn't too bad if you have a ratchet socket set and the right sized sockets - just need to scramble under the van - but you do need the holes to be there.

The main problem with fitting them is access and the very high torque needed.

Another classic case of 'over-engineering'. Whats wrong with a regular bottle or trolley jack? The chassis is getting 'raised' at this point. What does it matter what type of jack is under it doing the raising? Its just another 'caravan money-spinner' for the manufacturers.

I wonder if the 2 holes were originally for the drop down spare wheel carrier which used to live there back then.

I do not know wether the Kojack has different holes but the Alko jacking brackets fit in both sides just behind the wheels, holes there. On Swift caravans in line with the mud flaps. The holes for the spare carrier are a bit further back on the chassis.
