We're heading off down to Dover on Thursday evening and are thinking of overnighting in the caravan area on these services (heading south)- we're getting too old for driving through the night!. Does anyone have any experience of the caravan parking on these services or can you recommend an alternative? We would not be arriving in the area till about 9pm.
Was going to suggest looking on Google maps, but their Earth shot of Stafford Services seems to be a bit out of date! However, if you intend using the M6Toll, Norton Canes Services appears to have half-a-dozen drive-through caravan slots at the southern end of the car park?
one thing guareenteed is trying to sleep in any services wont get you a good nights sleep! cant you find a site somewhere near? just explain you are going to be a late arrival
Didn't think any sites would want us as it will be at least 9pm, possibly later before we get there. We have stayed overnight on Charnock Richard northbound and Cherwell Valley services and they were pretty much okay because the caravan parking was separate from the HGVs. However, we would prefer a site if anyone has any recommendations.

So is the caravan parking area at Stafford services not as it seems on Google Earth? That's why I thought of stopping there as it looks to be a dedicated caravan parking area away from the HGVs.
Your main problem is the time of arrival, however, try giving this CL a ring as they may be able to help. I have had dealings with the site owners myself in the past to which they have been really helpful but if you explain your dilemma they may be able to offer assistance for a one night stop over.
Stafford services have caravan specific parking places which are drive through and not part of the HGV parking area. I would not fancy stopping over for a sleep there personally but if you must they are probably as good and as quiet as you are going to get in such a place.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
If you are a member of the CC, or would be prepared to join, then Park Farm CL near Stafford would be OK, it's the one we always use. No gate or barrier. No facilities other than ehu. About 3 miles from J14, on the road to Uttoxeter.
We're booked in at Park Farm CL, I'm sure we'll get a better night's sleep there than on the services and pay much less too. Thanks again - I'm so glad I asked and that you all took the trouble to reply.
Will it be easy to find in the dark? I've had a look on Google Earth and it doesn't look too bad, following the site's directions, but just a bit concerned about missing the turn into the driveway.
On the A518, look out for the police station and then the showground, then you come to a roundabout, straight over this, next turn on the right. You should be ok, I think, but we don't travel in the dark so can't say for sure. I don't know what is further on either, in the way of suitable turning areas, sorry.
