Hi, I have been a member for a few years but am now crossing the divide from a trailer tent to a caravan. Looking forward to viewing life from within solid walls
My new baby is a Go-Pod, very small but suits me and means I don't have to change my car as my little Yaris is more than capable of towing her.
Being made redundant last year and changing jobs means a reduction in holidays so I hope to be able to head off on a Friday tea-time for a weekend away that would have been almost impossible with the time it takes to set up the trailer tent.
Will no doubt be asking for advice from you all in time

Im an ex camper looking at becoming a caravaner (tired of the hassle of drying tents out etc) and plan on doing exactly what your going to be doing, heading off on a Friday afternoon to get some much needed R&R.

Havent quite got as far as buying the van yet though, got it narrowed down to two, all depends no what I think when I see them.

One is the Freedom 1st Class, the other is the Xplore 304. Ill probably need a slightly bigger car with the 304, but I'll be looking at replacing my current car next year anyway, so I could just bring that forward.

Sounds great! Me and the wife love the idea of just deciding on a Thursday to go away for the weekend :)

Do it!!!! We went to NEC looking for a "week-end " tent and came away with a fixed berth van. OH works 6 weekends out of 8 and witht the tent waited to see what the weather was going to be like before we booked to go away.....and often missed a decent week-end due to bad forecast that never happened. Now we just go and take what we get. Have been away for at least one weekend every month since October and really helps get through the winter.

Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.

Looks great for weekending, not sure I would want to spend a week or more though. Maybe when I was younger, but now I like to leave a bed made up so that I can just climb in at night.

I was initially looking at the Go Pod caravan, purely because its small, light weight and really easy to tow.

However the one thing that put me off was the real lack of space, I go camping with three or four friends of mine and we always use one tent as the communal tent. I just thought for the little bit extra, I could get a considerably bigger van, with one or two extra luxuries that the Go Pod doesn't have.

Also as Colin21 said, I could probably last a long weekend in one of the Go Pods, two weeks in Cornwall though? erm......no.

This isn't to say the Go Pod isn't a great little van, it just didn't seem to suit my needs.

You will love it Fionag, we too were made redundant a few years back so could afford a lot if holidays anymore abroad etc etc, we have had some fantastic times since in the caravan, even just a night here and there sometimes, weekends always seem longer too when you go away in the van. Enjoy
