We have just purchased our first second hand 2001 Swift Lifestyle 510. Our plan is to spend a couple of months touring Europe. I have sent off for my CRIS documents, but i have been told we will not receive them before our planned trip. Can anyone please advise if it is still OK to travel without this. I have caravan insurance, car MOT/V%/RAC cover/European insurance. All we are missing is our caravan registration!
The CRIS document is not a Government issued document and it is not compulsory to have one so as long as you have some sort of proof that you own the van you will be ok. In your situation I would think that a copy of the receipt in addition to the documents you already have should be sufficient and I have never been asked for any of these documents even though I have always taken them with me.

PS Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new caravan.
The CRIS documents are only proof that you have the caravan currently registered in your name and traceability if the caravan ever gets stolen. As long as you have provided your touring caravan insurance with the CRIS number then you are safe to travel where ever you like but it does help if you put your caravan insurance phone number in your mobile contact list in case of emergency.
Theres no legal requirement for registration & insurance for caravans towed behind a UK reg. vehicle so you need no paperwork for your caravan on the continent.
Again, thank you all for your replies. Most helpful and i feel reassured about our forth coming trip. Hopefully i will be able to assist with some postings at a later date. Again thanks!
