hi, i've just discovered that my castleton roberta caravan that i was given last year has rotton struts in the framework. i do not have great DIY skills but willing to have a go, but just cannot work out where to start as it involves taking out the bed frame and a cupboard but they seem to have been installed and fixed from the outside before the caravan outer skin was put on. does anyone know how to go about getting the furniture out of these caravans? i assume once out i then need to cut out the ply of the areas affected, replace the wood and cut new ply to fit? what is the best tool to do this with?
any suggestions gratefully received!

Cut it out and refit with raw plugs and/or self taping screws? Without seeing it it's hard to say, a jigsaw or saw for cutting out damp wood i would have thought

Yes, as you have discovered, caravans are built from the inside outwards making furniture removal difficult. Helpful website here. Tools are just the usual woodwork tools. You will also need some exterior grab glue like Evostik Serious Stuff & exterior body sealant. A PU sealant like Sikaflex 512 works well.

I bought a circular saw last year when they were on offer at trade point.
Great for cutting big panels, easy to use, should have bought one years ago.

replacing extensive wood rot is not something i would fancy doing even though i think i do have the skills and tools for the job..

i often feel folks on here make it all sound easier than it really is.. it can be done but whether or not its a practical proposition is another matter..

It depends on the state of it. If you have the practical skills to do it then really its self explanatory & does not require instruction, anybody who is capable of doing the job can work out for themselves if its worth it. Mainly the only advice required is on what sealants & glue to use.

It depends what caravan it is. An old Castleton is probably worth preserving.
