Hello,

We have recently bought an Avondale Mayfly 1989 and are just getting to know it and our way around it. Tried plugging it in to the mains today but the mains light doesn't come on so presume it's not working.

The 12v system works fine so far as we know - lights and radio work.

We're going to check the ruse fuse in the plug but other than that, is there anything simple we might be able to check to try and get it working?

First check your hookup lead. Undo plug & socket & check all wires are connected. Ehu leads do tend to get pulled & tripped over disconnected wire are not unknown.

There is an MCB unit where all the trip switches are so check first to see if they are all switched on because if the caravan has recently been serviced quite often the engineer leaves the switches isolated. It is also advisable to have a mains safety tester which you can buy for under a fiver which you plug into the 3 pin socket to undertake necessary safety checks. If all fails then the problem will probably be a defective mains EHU power cable.
