For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
The Clockwise Haggis is much friendlier than the anticlockwise one.

Lets not forget the 450,000 people who were born in England but are living in Scotland at this time, which equates to roughly just under 10%..so we must be doing something right up here!
Trog100 may well end up staying here

well my "if i survive" comment was more about the weather and the journey than the locals but i am back..
my first "mishap" we suffered a power loss somewhere near Kinross on the way north.. i called out the AA thinking my trip was over a wee bit early.. i happened to mention i had filled up with fuel 30 miles or so back.. the AA guy said have you got the receipt i had a rummage around and found it.. two Cornish Pasties and £40 quids worth of unleaded.. errr.. my truck is a diesel.. he he
it cost me £220 quid for the AA to come and drain it all out and another £70 quid to fill the tank back up again.. ouch.. he he
we could carry on though and we did but the weather forecast predicted things turning bad on Wednesday and getting worse as the week progressed so we set off back south from Aviemore Wednesday morning spent Wednesday night near Jedburgh and carried on back to Nottinghamshire today..
gas dosnt last long in the winter and the A9 is dodgy when it snows.. summer time touring make a lot more sense.. he he
the AA have fully equipped little vans with one single purpose.. draining out fuel systems when people put the wrong fuel in.. in one way i find it hard to believe that i managed to put the wrong fuel in but i did and was completely unaware of doing it until the vehicle lost power 25 miles or so down the road when i met some bloody great hills near Kinross..
i thought my diesel pump was failing causing fuel starvation but it just didnt like the 50/50 diesel/petrol mix it was running on.. the fix was easy but expensive.. drain the lot out and be more careful the next rime..
the AA pretend they are calling in a third party firm to do it but its them just trying to avoid people expecting them to do it for free as part of the service.. its a fixed charge of £220 quid and in my case took about fifteen minutes once the little van set up to do it arrived..
nearer home i would have took a cheaper option but when a long way away the choices are limited..
my son thought i was daft making the trip anyway.. he was right but i love Scotland and wanted to see it in the winter and in the snow..
a pic taken at the border on the way home.. he he
i learned a few things on the trip.. daylight hours are very limited.. the heating system in the van is plenty toasty even set on low but guzzles gas partly because it spends so much time on.. my old go anywhere tow truck isnt quite so go anyway with a van on the back though at no time did we get stuck but the possibility was always there..
the trip was just something i had to do.. i am a bit weird that way.. he he
