Hi I am new, We are looking into getting our first caravan, we are a family of 5 but tbh its going to be more like 2 or 3 people caravanning, I have loads of questions and I am looking for some advice, about what I need to look out for when looking at the caravans, we don't have a massive budget to get the van about the £1500 mark less would be better lol, I really like the older van post on here, there are some very nice vans, we live in the north east so will be interested in camping sites around us if people could recommend any, I just wanted to say hi and is anyone has some advice please tell me as I don't want to get it wrong, thanks x
While you wait for specific advice, have a look at some of these threads.
For site recommendations, Camp Site Search has several methods of finding sites that might suit you, besides the Map Search I've linked to, and many of those sites listed have reviews by other UKCS members.
No doubt someone will be along shortly with specific advice and recommendations.
Welcome to the forum. With your budget I would suggest going private. You might be lucky enough to find somebody selling up and throwing in all the required bits such Aquaroll, Wastemaster, hookup cable etc.
The biggest piece of advice I could give would be watch out for damp. Caravans are prone to water ingress so have your wits about you. You can hire damp meters too.
With regards sites, take a look at Bob's link. We are in the North East and there's a massive amount of sites we can get to within an hour.
Before looking at any caravans you need to know how much your car can legally tow.
It is recommended that the caravan's fully laden weight is no more than 85% of the car's kerb weight, although experienced towers can tow at 100%.
Where abouts in the North East are you? I live near Scotch Corner and can recommend some lovely sites.
What sort of condition/mileage/servicing has it had? Looking at technical possibilities is one thing, but if its in less than perfect health, its still going to struggle with all the gear for 3/4 folk.
