I had a call from my van storage yard saying a motorhome had been stolen and a van had been damaged after they attempted to steal it.
It turns out the owner had a call from a very nice chap who wanted to store his van there, he paid upfront and the owner sent him the access keys etc. The new tenants van didnt turn up but he did one day and stole the motorhome.
Ours is an unmanned yard so easy once you have been given the key!
Just a warning that maybe owners of yards should see photo id or similar before relessing access details.

Depends what you call a storage yard. plenty of farms around my way, North Essex do caravan & motorhome storage. Even if its got a locked gate its easy enough to break in if its remote with no other security. When late model caravans go its probably been planned in advance. To steal a modern motorhome though you would need the keys. Perhap the thief broke into owner's home first & stole the keys?
site i am on has a key pad entry but overlooked by camera plus any caravan in storage is in a seperate locked yard which only site owner has access to...plus the geese and dogs make a lot of noise if you go anywhere near that yard..

Our Cassoa storage facility requires a sensor in the van that is linked to our key card. If the two don't match then the gate won't open. It also has 24hr security and CCTV.
I suspect that not every facility is like ours. It's a shame that we have to go to such lengths to keep our pride and joy out of the clutches of scum!
Theres a storage place near me. For the half-determined, it would be so easy to cut a hole in the fence and have a field day with the units, given theres no security overnight. As it stands, you could help yourself to numerous rear light fittings or anything else on the backs of units, just through the railings.
Our van used to be stored in a Cassoa Gold place.
Until a van got nicked out of it.
So we moved.We're now in a Cassoa Silver place, which is more secure!
*shakes head*
Ours has got ANPR, first you have to ring phone number then you drive into a holding area (gate closes behind you) and front gate won't open until it recognises the car number plate..

A good reason to have a Tracker fitted as the moment they move the unit, the tracking company are notified.

There should be no assumption that should a tracker be activated at 2am police will have the resources available for hot pursuit.
A rather strange view? A good tracking company will notify the police that a unit is being moved illegally and will also be able to track it and pass on the information top the police by constant updates.
In addition, the storage site owner can be notified immediately and may be able to take steps to prevent the unit leaving the storage area.
