set up at York today water heater does not work on electric tried it on gas it keeps turning off after a few seconds gas is on cooker working !!! Any ideas anyone ?
Have you emptied the water in the heater between trips? If you have you could try draining and refilling. We sometimes had the same problem at this time of year when we used the drain plug to empty the system.
Have your removed the external gas vent cover that clips over the vent forstorage and towing? If you leave it fitted and try to run the water heater on gas you will trip the flame failure device and the gas will go out very quickly. Remove the cover it just clips on, wait 5 mins and try again.
Our old Lunar had this type of water heater fitted and l must admit its the only caravan out of the many we have owned over the years to be fitted with one of these flue vent covers that have to be removed before it would work.

Another thought, thinking back to our Lunar, if the yellow drainage leaver was flat as far as it would go down to the floor, it would continue to drip and leak out of the drain until the heater and barel were empty. It needed to be at true horizontal to hold a full heater tank and work properly.

Both caravans we have had, have had flue vent covers. I am sure it is the norm. I have seen articles on making a simple tool to help remove stubborn covers as they rarely get removed if only electric is used.
They are not fitted to our new Elddis Brian, which has the Whale system fitted, and l have never had them on my past Avondales or Coachman caravans, which makes me think they may either be a recent thing fitted to some caravans post 2000, which our Lunar was, but yes l agree that you are right in thinking that most people run their hot water on EHU when available, us included, so some flue covers are rather a pain to remove and replace ready for towing after use due to lack of wear, although l would prefare to have them securely fixed rather than be loosing them and having to pay an arm and a leg of cash out to replace them on a regular basis.

If the heater does not work on electric then turn it off at the mains, then if the water in the tank is still cold wait half an hour and then turn it on again. If the water in the tank is warm then run the hot water out through the taps till it runs colds, turn off the heater at the mains and leave for half an hour ( just be sure the tank is full before turning the electric on ). Turn the electric back on and it should now work. The reset needs a cold tank and isolating from the mains to do its job.
As others have said if the gas foes not work the probability is that the outside cover is still on. However, you may find it takes several attempts to light as it sometimes takes a while for the gas pipe to fill and give a continuous supply.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
