New to the board: All advice on this multi question post is much appreciated. In the New Year I am starting the process of repatriating to the UK after many years in France; At 62 I am in the unfortunate position of losing most of my money in business in France, but that shouldn't alter any of the questions I am going to raise. I have enjoyed the flexibility of living out of a caravan before when I had two jobs fifty miles apart and two hundred miles from my home. I need to be able to be close to Twickenham/Hampton some of the week and then near to Hastings for the rest. Besides being able to work on the internet I will be able to babysit as I feel I need to be closer to my family than I have been in recent years.

Questions.
I need to buy a caravan, budget £5000. I want a fixed bed. and the ability to switch from electricity to gaz, on heating equipment. As many mod cons as possible.
Not too heavy. Otherwise an awning thrown in would be good when it comes to responding specifically.

I need recommendations on sites and storage near Twickenham and similarly Hastings. I am not bothered about any facilities other than decent toilets and showers plus internet. I could at times stay around half way at a site like Alderstead. Because I will going up and down to France on a regular basis over the next year or so. I would like to know sites that I can drag the caravan out of storage for a few weeks then put it back on a year round basis. Is this possible?

This looks a great website and thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

What car do you have or are you getting one because difficult to advise on caravan unless you state approx weight? If you want a caravan to live in then probably you want something around 1300kg all up or a bit more & something like a Mondeo will tow that ok.

Have you considered a motorhome? It seems to me that if you are too-ing and fro-ing and over to France and back that something motorhome might suit the bill better. Just a thought.

£5000 could/would be a bit restrictive for a half decent motorhome.

Hi, tanks for replies. In answer to your questions:

For the time being I will be driving a Fiat Scudo, so reasonably powerful.

When I return to France I will put the caravan back into storage and drive down. I will continue to keep a property down there.

As for storage . Have a look at the clubs cc site and c&cc site. My sister keeps hers in one of their sites she just has it towed out when she visits. They put it back in storage when she leaves. This works very well for her as she doesn't drive. But not all the sites have these facilities.
You could phone them or look on here on the sites search.
You could also look at staying at their smaller cl or cs sites . But again you would need to search on here for a site in an area that may suit you.
Good luck.

Theres plenty of fixed bed caravans about of all makes & all the interior fitting are much the same, mostly of the same makes as are chassis & running gear. Different caravan manufacturers mostly buying in common parts. They will all have gas & electric heating.

Not so much make but condition more important. Plenty on ebay in your price range for example.

Any specific recommendations would be good. The references mentioned I have looked at, but would like to hear from anyone who knows the sites relevant to the areas I have mentioned. Ideally campsites with storage;
