Just paid the deposit today on a 1997 Lunar 2 berth. Pick it up next weekend.
Much caravanning experience as a kid and teen with my parents (I was one of those annoying kids who had to know what everything was and how everything worked).
Hoping to go away for a quick night the day we pick it up just to check everything over etc.
We have most things as we are changing over from a Trailer tent (advertised in the free adverts on here if anyone is interested). And other things my parents still had from their caravanning days.
There are a few little things that need sorting on the van, nothing major though. A full gas and safety check will have been performed (hopefully) by the dealer by the time we pick it up next week.
If anyone can advise me where I could get a few bits and pieces from;
The freezer door on the dometic fridge has come off, not sure if need a whole new door or just hinges
Middle of the 3 front windows, the support arm has broken as the plastic screw in part where it connects to the window frame.
Biggest part...The Carver 1800 SC gas fire, the front cover is in two pieces and I cant see how it goes together, so looking for a replacement cover for this, and instructions on how to fit.
I think thats it for now, any tips, advice or general pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Feel nostalgic (probably the wrong word) for the trailer tent, but love the caravan. "Camping" all year round is fantastic.
No unfortunately, due the the price and age of the van etc, it is considered a Trade Sale and sold as seen. Tons of dealers seem to have the same policy.

If thats the case, buy from ebay, you would get a better deal for your money.Seems to me thats a trade in they want rid of.And from what i have read on here,it does not get much better with newer vans either. The only time i would even consider a dealer is to buy new.But one its too expensive and 2 i dont use it enough

Unfortunately, 99% on eBay want cash on collection, and we needed to pay with a credit card. Also eBay we still wouldnt have been able to rectify these minor issues if we had liked a pivate one with similar problems and still you get no official gas, and appliance and road worthiness check, although I admit we may have gotten more for our money.
We know we have probably paid about £200-300 more than we would have had we we bought it on a private sale, but our hands were tied due to the above.
Either way, we have left a deposit now, and we are fairly happy with the caravan we have purchased and will pick up next Saturday.
Just need to sort out the minor issues and away we go.

I always thought that if you were a trader, you could not sell "sold as seen " as the SOGA still applies to a retail sale. Perhaps I am wrong.
I'll be honest this was my first thought as well
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
That may well be the case as regards the SOGA. Hopefully we won't need to find out.
But yes even in our eagerness (this was about the 30th caravan we looked at lol), we checked for damp, I dont think there was a square centimetre (or inch depending upon you age) that I didnt probe with the damp meter. I know they are not massively accurate ( or as as accurate as a thorough independent check), but they give a decent idea at least, and the readings were low all over (compared to massive ones on a few other vans we saw elsewhere). Also in the pile of paperwork for the van there was a full damp check done in 2011 (yes I know its 3 years ago), and it was dry and sound all over on that.

Cheers ziva, just seen them too, think i am going to have to wait until we get the van next weekend to make sure they are right for our demoteic model number.

You are still covered by the Sale of Goods Act depending on price paid however everything should be in working condition and it should be damp free.
However regarding the gas fire, get it repaired by a certified and competent gas engineer like a mobile caravan technician as you would probably need to get the caravan serviced anyway.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
