Any advice on do's and don'ts for cleaning our caravan exterior?
Is a pressure washer too harsh? Should we use a special GRP cleaner or will normal auto products suffice?
A pressure washer is a no no if you hit a seam with it it's bye bye to being water proof!
Any auto cleaner will do unless it is really ingrained in which case you will need something with a bit more umph
Caravans are not made out of the same stuff as cars, nor is any paint the same. You should ideally use products designed for caravans - there are plenty about.

I have found that Stardrops household cleaner is very good its on par with Fenwick's. It is very mild and cleans well with a brush, I use this first then finish with Fenwick's Bobby Dazzler for a lovely shine. It always works for me.
