We have just purchased a caravan and will tow it for the first time (apart from when we collected it) when we go on holiday to North Wales in a couple of weeks time. We are South Sheffield based and are thinking of going via Buxton picking up the A54 and then towards Congleton and Chester before picking up the A55 towards our destination . Does anyone have any experience of towing on this road and if so can tell us what it is like.
We want avoid the Wood head pass because of the airport traffic.

We are going to Greetham Retreat between Lincoln and Skegness a week on Monday but haven't looked at the route properly yet. We are then going up to Scarborough.
The options seem to be M62 then down the A1 or to cut across using the A626. I don't know much about the A626.
not knowing your car or van and taking into account your lack of experience i would suggest a longer but easier route
m1 north
m62 westbound
think it becomes m60 westbound for a short bit around north manchester
then m62 westbound again
short hop on the m6 southbound over thelwall viaduct
then onto m56 west bound.
as you get near stanlow refinery outside lanes take you straight onto the A55 westbound .then just keep going straight ahead .

We have a Citroen Berlingo and it's a 2 berth Avondale Caravan. We haven't much experience of towing only towed a trailer tent previously. We are going to Abergele, really looking forward to it just hope the fine weather continues.

Agree with the above, best to make your first experience an easier one.
Hi Black Fox can you recommend some places to visit in the area, we have two dogs so places like the Mountain Zoo are out, we also have two girls 13 & 11. We like walking and visiting the beach, are there any nice villages or towns.

Don't rule out the zoo completely. If you're happy to leave your dogs in the car - providing it's not too warm of course - it will be easy enough to go back and check on them as the car park is actually IN the zoo. Also if you go early enough in the day you should be able to get a shady parking space as the car park has tall trees along one, maybe two, sides. I left my dogs a couple of years ago and they were fine.

plenty to see and do ,in the whole area ,conway town and castle ,llandudno .with its shops and pier ,the great orme which you can drive up with a large car park at the top .
colwyn bay though theres a lot of construction work on the beach at the moment same goes for rhyl .
you could head down to talacre beach for miles of beach and sand dunes ,chester is within range to .
go the other way and you have bangor and then on to anglesey with its beaches .and good old snowdonia with places like betws-coed .all within a hours drive time .on anglesey rhosneiger has a super beach .that enough to wet your whistle .
unfortunately the abergele area beaches are mainly stony but sandy shores are never far away with either cheap or free parking to

When I read that I immediately started planning a weekend at Manorafon so I could go into the castle - something I've wanted to do for ages - but reading from your link it was only open for one day at the end of June
