I have bought a used caravan and am unsure of the condition of the battery , it charges ok but when fully charged , just using the cd player and the water pump seems to flattern the battery within a couple of hours . Does this mean the battery is past its best or could something else be causing this problem ?
You need to re-charge the battery first then check with a meter to see what the voltage is which should be around 13 volts then let it stand for 48 hours and re-check to see if the voltage has reduced or not. If it has then an auto electrician can check it to see if any of the lead plates are short circuiting which if any are then it's scrap.
It's best to use the right type of smart charger for a leisure battery and there's plenty of information on the web regarding deep cycle and shallow cycle batteries.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
Unfortunately with Leisure Batteries, if they are allowed to go flat they are usually scrap so your description suggests it has been allowed to go flat
