We haven't been away in the van since February and we are away tomorrow. I usually use Puriclean to clear out the aquarolls and water system but can't find any. I do have some Jeyes fluid. I have heard of this being used and I am sure some people have said it shouldn't be used because of reaction with the hot water tank.
If I don't leave it in too long and flush it all out, do you think it will be ok?
I think Jeyes is a bit strong and will leave an after taste long after use. Jeyes would be ok for the waste container. Have you tried Halfords for your Puriclean ?
I have been to Halfords and bought some puriclean. It was actually Numark sterilising fluid I had. I am not sure if that is like Miltons oe Jeyes. It says to keep away from metal but has a picture of a metal kettle amongst the things it sterilises.
Please read the instructions on the Jeyes fluid tin, it is both caustic and poisonous. If swallowed then immediate medical assistance is required so I wouldn't be using it to sterilise a drinking water container.
Jeyes fluid is often used to kill germs after things like a sewage spill or to put down outside drains. It was used on our outside pavements after the a drain repair. Seems the smell of it is all-conquering!!
Completely different stuff chemically. Jeyes is phenolic, I think, and Milton is bleach. Jeyes is best for toilets and outdoor use, bleachy stuff can be used very diuted in drinking water systems.
I have always used Puriclean. I had just run out of it. I have now bought some more and cleared the system. I was just wondering whether the Numark fluid ( similar to Miltons ) that I had would be ok as a stopgap.
Yes its used for sterilising all babies feeding equipment. Does a good job on the Aquaroll and sterilising the caravan water system, have used it for years.

I just rinse the Aquaroll with water and run a few litres through each tap. Never had a problem but I am from the generation that played outside, drank from the garden hosepipe, ate vegetables that came covered in dirt

We never had a hosepipe. If we were paling football someone would fetch some milk bottles full of water from their house. I have drunk from streams when hillwalking/backpacking and had been very thirsty.
