I'm seriously considering a motor mover for my new van as the car finds manoeuvring it hard work. Also done so many extra over time hours over the last couple of months I don't feel so guilty spending the money.
However I am unsure on a few things. Looking at the Enduro or a Powrtouch of some sort probably the Heavy Duty.
Van is only 1100kgs but driveway at home which it visit occasionally is very tight - have to take gates off the posts to get it in. The enduro is somewhat cheaper but is the soft start and the variable speed that the powrtouches have worth the extra?
I will be towing solo most of the time and often camping on grass so discover after first trip that I can't move the van at all as the Jockey wheel sank just enough to stop me being able to push it!
I have had original Carver, Enduro and now it have fitted Powrtouch HD on my latest new van, as i purchased it to fit myself for the same price as i would of paid for another Enduro. The Powrtouch is better as it has four different levels of speed control which is handy as i have some very tight manoeuvring to do.
Very happy with my powertouch also, second hand off flea bay,bit of paint and it looks as good as new,if you pitch on grass regularly, consider a pneumatic jockey wheel, tends not to sink as much as a solid one
thanks, I think I'm more likely to go with the powrtouch, however can anyone recommend someone to buy/ fit from, probably easiest will be on my driveway as its in storage not far away. Buckinghamshire area please.
Thanks
We've just had a Powertouch Evo manual fitted to single axle by Mission Impossible, John travelled to Cambridge we thought he was good value, very efficient and professional.
they turn your caravan into big radio controlled toy..
they have a few quirks.. mine takes a fair bit of force to manually engage both rollers at the same time you need the big long spanner.. when you take the pressure off it springs off and if the van is on rough ground it can twist and lurch a bit.. the rollers act as a brake when on..
i have the powertouch classic one.. it gets my van up a 4 inch curb (one wheel at a time) both at the same time makes it struggle a bit.. he he..
Got mine from here and it does the job very well. Like others have said before me, I wish I had done it sooner! My mover cost nearly the same as the caravan!! But worth every penny.
thanks, im looking at the powrtouch classic too, don't have a 4 in curb but do have very narrow gateposts and a ridge about an inch or so from well bedded gravel to concrete that we can't push the van up - Currently have to unhitch outside the drive, put the car in the drive, push van into drive by hand, rehitch to pull up ridge, then unhitch, move car and then push van to final position - What a palaver!
Your scenario sounds similar to mine. Got a Pwrtouch HD fitted last year and it has made life so easy. We have a very steep drive and very little space between gable of house and garden wall on the other side. Like you we have a mixture of paving slabs and red chips, not easy to push van on this surface.
The MM does it with ease, right up the drive and on to the street which is also steep and straight up to towbar.

Been thinking about having a motor mover as well, how hard are they to DIY fit, any special tools needed .
A good spanner or socket set is all you need to bolt it on and some wire strippers/crimps maybe if you need to fit spade connectors.
If your used to working on cars and general DIY an hour or 2 should be plenty. Bit longer maybe if your not.
But its not difficult.
Deciding where your going to site the box and wiring. Keep them as short as possible.
my technique is to pull one wheel of the van up on the 4 inch kerb as i park.. make sure the wheel is in the right place.. unhitch and just using a left turn put the other wheel up on the kerb.. if i get it right the back of the back is lined up nicely with my gate.. i do cheat a bit and pop a 2 inch block of wood next to the kerb..
a mover does cost a bit but they well are worth fitting even on older vans.. its possible to fit one just with one person but easier with two..
