Hi, I'd be really grateful for any suggestions, We have an old Abi Transtar, we love it, nice and dry, however the interior is "dated". I've bought some really nice throws, and have died the velour pink curtains a lovely red, my problem is the covered pelmet bit, that is covered in the pink velour, stapled on, If I remove the velour and dye it( it has buttons placed along it) will I get it back on looking tidy? or I was thinking of trying fabric paint or fabric paint on dye, which would save me having to remove the material, has anyone used it? i have to confess to being more of a hammer and nails type woman than a needle & thread one
Our first caravan was a Bailey Beachcomber of 1994 vintage with the ubiquitous pink velvet curtains.
Wifey chose some material from Boyes and bought enough to make curtains and loose covers for the upholstery. I covered the pelmet in the van with the same stuff and simply stapled it over the existing material.
We then took the old curtains and new material to In Shops and got them to run up a new set of curtains and loose covers. Total cost if memory serves was about 80 quid for the material , labour and a few meters of that plastic stuff with the things on to fit on the caravan curtain rail.
With our present van we had some carpet left from re-doing the stairs at home so we had that run up into a spare set of carpets for the van - a local tradesperson did it for the princely sum of 24 quid.
When we sell the van on it will have brand new carpets and near new upholstery since we always use loose covers on the seats because of the dogs.
I recovered the seats and made new curtains' tie backs and stripped the pelmet re padded it and covered it without the buttons and it looks great. But f your happy with your throws and your curtains you could buy a contrasting fabric and make tie backs and recover your pelmet.

We took the carpets out and use our Swift Conqueror with the final floor covering. So much easier.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
I used to have an ABI transtar, (the one with seperate toilet and shower rooms at the back). It was a really solidly built van, solid wood doors and cupboards. Remember to remove the soap from the tip up sink before tipping it
