We had our caravan stolen this week, caught on CCTV etc but police are doubtful it will be recovered so going through the process of insurance. (not fun)
Anyway on our policy we have a £50 a day towards alternative accommodation or hire which is great, could possibly hire one. Problem is that the the insurance company is aware and are trying to fast ball our payout so they dont have to cover this.
Sounds great so far, problem is we are due to go mid July for 2 weeks, so even if they pay out within 2 weeks that gives me a handful of days to replace everything inside and the van itself.
I could pay for caravan hire myself but if they are efficient on paying then I wont be getting that cash back. Rather put towards a new caravan if so.
We have individual insurances from the 2 parks we staying out but they wont cover a cancellation as theft isnt included, just loss of earnings so feel a little cheated as advised to take up on booking. Both sites are fully paid up and we will loose 100% of monies. (around £800) (decided to stay in UK this year to save a few pennies)
I feel like I don't really want to carry on with caravaning as this weeks experiences has made me reflect on all negative sides of the great outdoors.
To make matters worse the van was fully stocked up and ready to go, so lost most of our camping gear also. So whatever happens I feel I am going to be out of pocket.
After advice of anyone who's aware of an individual/company that hires tourers (we are in Oxfordshire and staying in Devon then Cornwall)

Post a picture of the van with any significant markings so all us fellow campers can keep an eye out.
maybe if you refuse the first offer from the insurers that would give you time to rent a motorhome or similar? Sounds like a nightmare to me, best of luck and may the thieves rot in hell
Love the way the police are being so negative about it being recovered. Sounds like they know it's been stolen by certain types of people from a particular community, and can't be bothered with the aggro of getting it back.
As for your holiday, I really feel for you, my heart goes out to yourself and family, losing everything is a devastating blow and tbh I wouldn't return to it after suffering a loss like that.
Best advice I can give? Write down everything that was taken, find out costs of replacing every single item, and send to insurers, and reject offered until you get what you want. Had you been nearer, I would have let you borrow my van, that way your getting a holiday at least, but Banbury is a fair bit away from fife
Good luck

I doubt the op would want his stolen caravan back in the state it might be in now. If you are not going until mid Jul & are certain of full payout before then worth a try to locate a suitable caravan at a dealer's now, put a deposit on, say £200 & go from there.
Otherwise motorhome rental would seem the best bet & £50/day would help but still leave you out of pocket.
Good idea to post picture or CRIS number, or put picture on your galley with post directing members to view it .Have you still got tent, could possibly save your booked holiday.
Didn't think of rejecting offers, didn't know I could do that. Maybe the solution.

Sorry to hear of your problem and I hope you get it sorted quickly so you can still get away.
Looking at the photos above reminds of another set of photos that were posted here last year or the year before. Did somebody else have a caravan taken and the thieves have made a return visit?
sorry to hear this has happened to you and left you with everything to sort out. There seem to be lots of places that hire tourers if you google touring caravan hire. From the photo they only took two minutes to take your van. They can get security devices off that quick! 😳
We think they had a few of them in beforehand as you had to move other vans etc out of the way.

HI, so sorry to hear of your, loss guess its gone to half tarmac a drive or two, cut a few conifers or its on the back of a transit pick up full of scrap. What I would do is look on preloved web site, should find someone on there selling a van with all kit included near to you which you could use then sell or trade in without the loss of any money on it. Good luck
It seems odd the cops could not identify the thieves' van from the cctv. Maybe its part of an ongoing investigation into an organised gang? Often a number of stolen caravans are recovered at once. Once a late model caravan is stolen its just an insurance claim. Nobody is going to want their stolen caravan back after it has been lived for even a week. Stolen/recovered caravans are property of insurance company which will auction them to recover some losses.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
