If you want to make it a permanent bed get a foam mattress to fit in place of the cushions. I used this ebay supplier The small double mattress fitted exactly in the place of the cushions & is really comfortable. Mattress including good quality zipped cover was delivered next day so no complaints.
Mattress toppers are good, I have the 'egg box' kind. Instead of rolling up and trying to store every day and getting out each night, I cover mine with a throw and we sit on top of them - so comfy by day as well!
But, theres a different topper in Dunelm. Not over thick, but feels incredibly comfy to the touch. It has elastic corners to keep it in place, but im not sure this would work with the upturned seat cushions as you cant access the far corners very well once the 'bed' is made up.
I have just bought a 5cm memory foam mattress topper, and we are going to try it out for the first time when we go away for a few days next week. Our first outing with the caravan too!
hi colin let me know how it goes and how comfy you find your new topper,we havent been out in our van yet ,we tried a night on the drive lol just to try it out ,we go to alton for a few nights next month just until i get the feel of towing the van ,then were going for a week in august to a place called daisy farm near to welsh pool so will post any comments when i get back, looks a top notch place ,with fully serviced pitches so lets hope it is what it says it is lol regards neil

We bought the dunelm ones. Really good and comfy. Didn't bother with the elastic, just laid them down and put a sheet over. Highly recommend them
thanks guys for ya help, the duvalays are to expensive for me just yet so will go for either memory foam or try dunelm for the fluffy one that rayjdyer mentions .....
