We have purchased a second hand caravan oven as our swift does not have one but does have a cupboard space under the hob and grill for one and we can see a spare fitting. I have e-mailed a couple of companies re: fitting one and they have both come back with a £200 figure which had we realised it was that much we would not have bothered. Does anyone know if this is how much it is and is it not so straight forward as we thought it would be?
I guess many workshops would be reluctant to fit a secondhand oven supplied by customer for safety/liability reasons. Most will charge over £50/hr labour+vat & maybe high price reflects reluctance to fit customer supplied item? Price could well include checking of oven to ensure it is safe to use.
If you have only emailed & they have not seen the job they are probably allowing 3hrs in case of complications anyway. You would be better taking oven & caravan to local workshop to let them assess job & give an estimate.
If you have practical skills its not difficult to fit a secondhand oven yourself, its only installing oven & fitting gas supply using fitting available from any caravan shop.
I see you live in Stourbridge, try Simon at STC caravan services.co.uk(website)(Phone 07968486677),he's based in Wombourne but comes to you,I use him for servicing MM fitting etc.
I can highly recommend him,how much he will charge I don't know but he's always been very fair with me,just mention if you contact him,Alan with the Adria has put you in touch
Glad I could be of help,I'm not sure but no doubt someone on this forum will confirm or correct me,I think it has to be fitted by someone with the right credentials, the same as in your house, that way if you sell the caravan there will be no repercussions as it will have a certificate
As I understand it, any gas installation has to be carried out be a qualified gas engineer, but who is to know? When anyone buys a second-hand caravan, do they ask who fitted the gas appliances? I know I didn't. I am currently selling my boat. When I bought it many years ago, I ripped out the galley and replaced the old gas cooker with a new built-in oven and separate hob. I fitted the whole thing myself, and replaced all the copper gas piping, right from the bottles. The installation has passed the boat safety test several times since. Am I going to tell the buyer that I installed all the gas system myself? What do you think?
