Reading todays Telegraph, the following was an answer given by Honest John when asked what towbar to get for a BMW (the comments in square brackets are mine):

'First, towbars have to be EC approved [agreed], secondly, they have to be folding [!]. Fitting a fixed one is socially irresponsible

because of the damage they do to parked cars'

Socially irresponsible?! Really?

If that wasn't bad enough, he also goes on to say:

'Thirdly, BMW will quote for the full kit with electrics and additional transmission oil cooling for towing a caravan'.

Since when has any modern car needed that?

There was a thread on this forum some time ago but can't remember what it related to but one reply said that the website 'Honest John' was worth visiting as his comments are accurate and true. I visited the 'Honest John' website regarding another issue but my conclusion was about the same as yours. Just take it with a pinch of salt!

Some modern cars do need extra cooling if its an auto and the towing weight is close to the cars limits.

But the rest of the stuff i agree what jibberish.

Agreed.

A few months ago he replied to an enquiry about the validity of an oral contract when purchasing a vehicle.

A first year law student could have destroyed his response in about three sentences.

Obviously not his strong point. I did think about writing and pointing out the error in his reasoning.

Then thought better of it.

Why be arsed !!

Hi all
I had a 318 for a while the tow bar was £1500.00 but it wouldnt pull the skin of a sausage so i sent it back i now have a insignia with a fixed towbar and no i dont hit parked cars honest john is talking rubbish.

If he was referring to BMWs only then it makes pe3rfect sense! LOL!
