We have just returned from Lakeside in Lincolnshire, and have enjoyed a very nice week there using one of their 'Superpitches', which include a water point, grey water disposal, and an elsan point to every pitch.

Theres also an elsan washing and rinsing facility in the main toilet block, but as we watched people vacating their pitches at various times throughout the week, we were disgusted at the amount of them who used the fresh drinking water tap to flush out their toilet container, often allowing the inner neck of the toilet emptying pipe to come into contact with the tap, Yuk!

After that, we headded down to Lidl in Mablethorpe and stocked up with bottled water for drinking, it just wasnt worth the risk of spoiling our break by catching a nasty tummy bug though someone elses carelessness and dirty habits, its als put me off using this type of pitch ever again.

I'm the same fife bloke we had some very noisy music - fair do's it was the middle of a sunny hot day and people were enjoying the sun and chilling out.  We don't usually mind a bit of noise even though we aren't noisy ourselves as it creates a bit of atmosphere but the thumping bass beat of this dance music gave me a headache and when the expletive lyrics started with my kids about a call was put into site and it was sorted swiftly and politely within less than 5 minutes.

I think with the emptying of the loo I may have had a word myself as too late for site to deal with because that is absolutely disgusting, how can they not know that its a real health risk?! Bleurgh!  You were right Julia not to risk it though!

I do wonder if sometimes this is down to people not being aware that you just don't do this sort of thing. To me it is common sense, but it won't be to everyone. I think I would have mentioned it to the site in passing. They would have no idea this is going, on and could maybe add a notice somehwhere about it.

Never been on a super pitch with elsan point, if you saying it's a disposable point, sounds to me that there should be a tap provided to rinse out the cassette or the site is just inviting people to use the drinking water standpipe.
They provide a point to empty out then expect EVERY BODY to walk to the main toilet block to rinse it out... !!

I'll stick to the standard pitches

Yukky never seen a pitch with its own elsan point.i think it is probably (hopefully) that people were unaware. Does seem strange though as a new person may not consider the implications and if the pitch had its own elsan point would assume can use the tap on the pitch. Will look out for that sort of pitch in future and will bleach and anti bac the tap if it's got an on pitch elsan point as wouldn't want to wash my dishes let alone drink water from a tap that may have been in a toilet waste bit

Some people are disgusting? Yes. Certainly are. I think if you swabbed & tested any short hose attached to a fresh water tap on site you will evidence of s**t.

visit any toilet block just before cleaning. That will convince you. If you are still unsure talk to the cleaners.

Nice!

I have never seen a short hose on a drinking water tap that is one of the ways you can tell them apart as short hose will harbour germs

Once bitten, twice shy.

We were on a site up north and caught severe tummy bugs from contaminated "fresh water"(???).

Since then, like Bexamy, we only use either bottled water from our home tap or bought bottled water for anything that we drink.

We have a 5 litre empty water container that we take for the first few days and then, after that, we buy our drinking water. Better to be safe when on holiday.

I agree regards the site needing to instal a separate tap or better notices on these superpitches regards the elsan point, which is actually just like a grey water gulley with a flip up metal lid and a 4inch vertical sewerpipe at ground level. These pitches are nothing new for this site, and were the same 6 years ago when we first visited with our free weeks pitch after buying our last caravan from the parent company, Don Amott.

This year they were advertising upgrades of the touring side with a new elsan disposal point in the main toilet block, new disabled bathroom, and some executive pitches which for an extra fiver a night, provided a brick built barbeque to each pitch, which otherwise was just the same as their other superpitches, which are fairly standard unless you happen to be on a seasonal pitch around the perimiter of the main field. The most annoying thing about these dirty people who used the drinking water tap for their elsan was like Moorlander says, the majority of them were within 25yds of the new disposal and wash out room, which was clearly marked on the site map provided on arrival. For us, the correct way was to empty the contents down the point on the superpitch, then take the empty cassette for a good wash out over in the newly provided and spotlessly clean room, hence saving the need of lugging the extra weight over with my OHs bad back

When we went to Lakeside we used the super pitch water point. (worried now!) but I never bothered with the pitch elsan point. Seemed far easier to walk over to the disposal and wash out room than grovel about on the ground trying to lift up the metal lid.

Very nice site by the way !
