Hi peeps.

I have tried different searches, but with no luck, I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction, or answer the following questions.

Some time again there was a lot of discussion about, having a mobility car, and being a member of the camping & caravan club to benefit from the RAC arrival.
(car covered by mobility, then paying again for car and caravan with the RAC arrival)

The answer I was looking for.
was, the phone number for this at the RAC, and, do you still have to be a member of the c&cc to benefit from this, as I was hoping not to rejoin the c&cc.

Thanks Graham

I,m not sure of the number at the RAC but you can take out breakdown cover for your caravan only, costs £40.00.per year. however some of the RAC telephone sales team were unaware that this was so,but persevere.

John

Hi Graham,
Yes, the telephone number was with the RAC and can remember the thread you are referring to but there was confusion at the time with the RAC. The number that was provided on this forum I contacted but I must have got through a different member of staff as they hadn't got a clue what I was talking about even after the person spoke to their manager. Because of this reason my wife decided to have her own car so that the RAC Arrival cover would be simplified which she did and guaranteed cover.
Regarding the C&CC, yes you have to be a member of the club to qualify for the addition of RAC Arrival` but once your membership is due for renewal and don't re-join you could probably continue with the RAC. It's a good policy with the RAC but they don't deliver what they promise actually because I had to use them last year under this cover and it was a nightmare as the staff who took my call wasn't educated enough to know what their Arrival cover was. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I phoned the breakdown number on the reverse side of the RAC membership card which on the front has two logo's which are the RAC and the C&CC. When I returned with car on the back of a flat bed lorry with caravan in tow I contacted the C&CC afterwards and made an official complaint on the grounds that they advertise and promote the RAC Arrival cover so they have to take some accountability on the their failure. The staff at the C&CC asked which number I phoned. I replied and said, the number on the back of the RAC card. The reply was, "Oh! you should have rung the number on the back of your C&CC membership card". The RAC Arrival scheme is not fit for purpose in my view as it is supposed to take the hassle out of a crisis but I'm afraid they're very much mistaken from my own experience as a customer with first hand experience. We are still with RAC Arrival` but at least next time (hope there isn't) at least I know which number to contact.
So in relation to your question, if you have to ring the number on the reverse side of the C&CC membership card and you are not a current member they could probably refuse recovery on those grounds. RAC Arrival isn't cheap and you would probably need to ask them if you could continue your cover without C&CC membership. They will probably say yes and take your money but I wouldn't trust what they say as the company as an organisation is far from competent. The only reason why we are still with them is because no other recovery offers the equivalent except Green Flag Mayday cover but then you have to be a member of the Caravan Club to qualify which I'm not.

My car is not a motability car, but my now passed away brother in laws car was, and all that l can say from passed experiances is that we have both had excellent service in the past from Green Flag, and their homestart package is well worth the extra money.

On our first trip out this year with our newly fitted 13pin tow socket, we couldnt remove the connector from the old 7pin adaptor on our caravan as it had been accidentally left on throughout winter and the cold had contracted the metal and plastic making it jam fast on to the caravan.
One call to Mayday, the Green flag service, and they were here within the hour, got us sorted, and saved our holiday for us, we were well pleased, we would recommend them to anyone. Likewise, when my OH was taken ill whilst we were on the Warwick CC site a few years ago, their help in getting us back home as quickly and smoothly as possible so that my OH could undergo surgery for Kidney stones really saved us a lot of stress at the time, they bought me back with the car and the caravan, made sure it was securely on our drive, then made sure that my OH was transfered from Warwick hospital to Derby ok the next day. A whole lot more for your money than just a standard car breakdown service, and worth every penny.

Julia

When we had a mobility car, we joined Green Flag as we did not want to join the C & CC or use RAC as the very first time we wanted to use the RAC, they told us to go elsewhere.

thank-you all for your replies, very helpful.

At the moment, I am still a member of the c&cc.
4 reasons why I don’t wont to renew.
1-only used 1 camp site in the three years as a member, and didn’t like the site at all.
2- we are members of the cc, and love there sites.
3-no need to be in both clubs, so can save money.
4- and don’t like there new pricing structure.

I have contacted the RAC, and I informed them we have a mobility car, also explained about arrival with them.
He was aware of mobility and arrival through the c&cc, but had never done one.

I informed him, that I will not renew membership with the c&cc, and could I take out the arrival with a reduced fee.

The cost of this is £32 till the end of march 15.
there was no mention of having to be still a member of the c&cc to benefit from arrival.

I may phone tomorrow to check this, I will let you know the out come.

I will go with the CC green flag and insurance next year.

Thanks onces again.

Graham

I used to work for the RAC and yes it's really important that you ring the correct number.

The call centre staff only receive calls relevant to the training that they have received. You would really be horrified to know how many "hats" that they wear!

If you look at RAC arrival page it shows that you get C & CC membership included. If you are already a member then I guess the cost would be reduced.

I used to work for the commercial side of the RAC and I thought the Arrival cover was superb. I remember arranging the recovery of a large motor home from Scotland to Devon with 6 passengers and animals all covered by a years fee. A low loader to take a motorhome costs £100+ per hour!
